I've broken up the left side and tilled it. Just waiting on a solid forecast which next week may be the ticket. It's so dry though. I have a mix of seeds I got from local supplier here for the left side.

I'm struggling to decide how to handle the right side. It's about 50/50 buckwheat and weeds. A lot of poison ivy and I've had it on me for about a month now so I'm really not wanting to sling it all over myself again.

I may just mow it all down as low as I can and seed the hell out of it with chicory, clover, wheat, and rye and just see what happens.

Should I seed and then mow and let the thatch help hold moisture or mow it all low and then seed?
Definitely seed first. The thatch will help hold moisture and keep critters from eating it.

Cereal grains and crimson clover at this point would be a big draw. Once it germinates hit it with some nitrogen to help it get strong and tolerate heavy browse.
If they over browse, replant!
You can grow wheat on a rock with water and nitrogen and it will germinate as long as it's not frozen

That's what I have planted now. It has germinated with the less than 1/2 rain we had here. I just hope it doesn't burn up before the next. I definitely don't want to hit it with any fertilizer until I get some more rain.

Agree, sow wheat and/or cereal rye and crimson clover into the standing buckwheat then mow it tight...hopefully just before a good rain....increase the seed rate higher than you would on your tilled ground. Should green up nice with some rain.
