Been thinking more and more about trying to start a hunt camp and enjoy some fellowship.

If you were going to start from scratch and do a hunt camp with some hunting buddies, what would you do?

A couple restrictions.
1. Money is tight for most all of us. No leases or buying land. Also means hunting in TN to save on license fees.

2. Time is tight as well with kids, work, and obligations so within a couple hours of Mid TN would open up more opportunity. A whole week is probably pushing it to start off. Long weekend is more realistic until the tradition sticks.

3. Primitive camping is out. Need a pooper and shower. Primitive camping a night or 2 is ok, but not a whole week.

Anybody have some locations to suggest? Traditions to incorporate? Pranks to pull?

A small wma that's open to all hunts with easy traveling distance.pranks can come after the friendships are made.not every body can take a prank.good times don't always mean a Daed critter but can really perk up the camp.

catoosa has the open hunt coming up, me and about 6 buddies will already be there with a bunch of walleye and a cast iron skillet

can not give advice on location but I think there would be some great interest in it. I thought of how it would be nice for that and to have some camps that were family friendly to teach kids some also. My dad had a group that use to go to canada all the time fishing I got to go one time was a great trip.

David,

Just head west and hunt my place. Water, toilet, grill, hot shower, good food.

A hunt camp is a great thing. One of the reasons I stay on my hunting lease is the great guys and we have a blast. We kill deer, eat good and have fun hanging out.

You can do it and find good guys to do it with, don't give up. Good luck.

Thanks for all the ideas!

LBL is on the list but not very high since it would be bow only.
The campground nazi meddles too much up at Piney but something like that would be great.

I guess I need to go back to the beginning.... Where to hunt. What WMA in mid TN has decent numbers of deer, unit L, and accommodations either on property or close by?

Poser,
I like your cooking ideas for camp but its too much stuff to tote to an island on a small boat.

Good for a weekend hunt but logistically tough for a week. Also have weather to consider. If we had a cabin, we could sit out a day or two of rain/wind/cold and cook, tell stories, play cards.

2 days in a tent while its raining and 40' is miserable and everyone would bail.

Ill have to keep sniffing around. Some of the big WMA's East of here like Royal Blue are sweet but aren't in unit L.
