What makes you choose one location over another?At night,while thinking about where I want to hunt,I think of many things,food,cover,buck sign,but in the end,It always comes down to prevailing wind direction for me.

What about you?

I actually try to go with my gut on which spot i want to hunt. You know the feeling you wake up in the morning check the wind and it just hits ya to go to a certain stand. Seems if i try to think long and hard about it i cant ever make up my mind.

Different stand locations for different times of the fall. Coming up in November and on into December, I will exclusively hunt certain terrain features and pinch-points with some thick cover. That is where I have had the best luck during all phases of the rut. During bow season and late season, I gear more towards food sources. Though, during the phases of the rut, I will not just specifically hunt terrain features in general, but also terrain features that lead to a food plot (where I know the does are likely to be heading towards). Some of these thicker transition areas within 200 yards of prime food sources can be VERY effective!

This year, I have saved all my lock-ons for muzzleloader and rifle....and I guess choosing one of them for a particular morning, I first look at the wind, second see if I can get there with the right approach with that particular wind, then it all comes down to that "gut feeling" as TNTom mentioned.

I know the stands I want to hunt when the weather is right and righ time of year...but I dont hunt them if I dont have the right wind.

Fighting this decision right now. Going to hunt my land this PM trying to decide stand location right now...

Ive thought this too, but as I have paid attention this year on the places I hunt I get the predicted wind from the weather station better than 90% of the time I'm in stand. It swirls some and shifts but Id rather have it in my favor the majority of the time than the minority.

A combination of wind, my attempts to spread my hunting pressure around (not over-hunting particular stands), and intuition concerning areas most likely to see cruising older bucks.

- sorry, just had too, lol. On a serious note tho, with me it all boils down to where my gut tells me to sit. Whether it is some place where I have seen deer in the past, or there are some times I'll be heading out to a spot that I have picked out and on the way I see a place that just "feels right", and decide to sit there instead.
