I guess she is about 75, the lady. She is a staunch non-/anti hunter. She is also one of my staunchest readers. At least twice a year she sends me little thank you-type cards commenting on how much she liked one of my columns.

Last year her husband asked me to please come help her with her deer/turkey problem. She has 33 acres and it is loaded with both. For some reason I never hunted there. Her husband died a couple months ago and it was just a family only type service. Had it been open to the public, they could not have handled it. He was somewhat of a civic leader, maybe nationwide.

Today she called and was begging.

Tomorrow I will go hang a couple stands. I have about 16 feet of ladder and that should be enough for two stands almost smack in the middle of town. It will be bow only and I'll have to be carefull not to hit cars for hikers. I really don't want to hunt it.

But, what can you do?

Hung two stans, one eight feet, one 10-feet. Both had deer watching me while I sweated. Lots of small acorns, don't know if they will be of much value but I'm not really hunting feeding deer. Every doe I saw had twins with her.

Then, it got hot.
 
If the area is crawling with deer just wait for an easy shot (20 yds-30yds) . If you want the deer to go down quick use Rage mechanical broadheads.. but beware, the blood trail will look like a murder scene lol
 
I always wait for the best shot and I have no need for a Rage. I have a perfectly good broadhead. Of the nine deer I killed last year, only went out of sight.

When I stopped at the house to tell the lady I was there, she just had to take me on a tour of her home. Talk about some antiques and interesting stuff. It was almost like going in Mrs. Ruby's house. That place was a museum.

One of the hardest part of hanging the stands was finding a place I felt the deer would not cross a road if hit. It is long and narrow with roads on three sides.
 
These were all over but I don't know how much they will count. I would rate them about a three by the time the season opens. The drought really got to them.

Are those chestnut oaks or chinkapins? You might be OK if they are chinkapins. They usually don't drop until October so there could be time for them to mature.
