Squirrel Trapping, Etc.

I want a squirrel mount but would prefer one that's not shot up with shotgun pellets or a .22 hole in the pelt. Can I live trap a squirrel during squirrel season and then kill it to be mounted? If so, any thoughts on how to humanely kill a squirrel in a Havahart or similar trap without ruining the pelt? I thought you'd like this one, Steve. Ridiculous - I know.

Live trapping a squirrel, even during the season, for a mount would not be legal. The only game animal that can legally be live trapped (outside of the landowner depredation part) is a rabbit in a box trap.

If you have squirrels around your house causing you damage, you can live trap and destroy them. However, using one for a mount would definitely be in the gray area. I would call the local officer about using a "destroyed" squirrel.
