Any body been shooting any? Wont be long. I got my old Remington out and shot it some today. Still shooting great. Cant wait till it opens.

Good group. That looks good enough for head shots. You're right, won't be long till we can get back out in the hardwoods and chase those bushytails. Always a great time of year, the beginning of the hunting seasons. I haven't gotten my squirrel rifle out yet but I think you've flung a craving on me. I just might go out in the morning and put some rounds through my Savage Mark II. Love that accutrigger. It did well for me since I got it a couple of seasons ago. Good luck this season.

I agree Tickweek. I love to snipe squirrels. It's about the only way to take them with a .22. My favorite tactic is to watch them cutting hickory nuts. When they pick a nut, they normally go back to a good seat and eat it. I watch where they sit to eat and when they go back out to pick another nut, I position myself for a good shot at their dinner table. When they come back, one shot turns them off.

I have heard of squirrel barking but never tried it... gonna have to get one of those air rifles, I have a treeline full of squirrels 33 yards from my deck.

Marlin 880SQ is what I use now, it's a better rifle than I am a shot.

basset thats a great shootin rifle,the very early ones had a match chamber in them.would love to have 1 of the early ones ,i love my marlins,i have a golden 39A -7000-882ssv-25-.the 22 mag is my goto most of the time.also have a nef in .17hmr that is very accurate

its a 17HMR & at 1 time i shot a 3 shot group at the norris range at the farthest target (225y) that could have been covered with a quarter, & i think it was 4" low & a bit right.the bad thing is the holes are so small & not having a spotting scope i get tired of walking .i bought it when they first came out,wanted a marlin but it was all i could find.also when shooting clay birds set up it will poke holes thru & not shatter them so you dont think you are hitting them.it will bust unopened coke cans all to pieces along with water bottles.squirrels are head or thru the ribs & stay away from the legs .

Hey Moondog, nothin wrong with a shotty to squack hunt with. Check your local pawnshops. I picked the Mossberg up for about 100 bucks out the door.Marlin Model 60s can be found cheap also and are great shooters. Gotta love Marlins micro groove barrels.

Red Dog, man those pics were awesome, Ive never shot a limit in a day before I hope to hunt more this year since my work scedule has changed.

One of the reasons my first gun was a shotgun, you can use it for various types of hunting. Still, I plan on getting a .22...someday.

This is one of my favorite squirrel rifles. Flintlock southern style .32 caliber, 42" barrel. I shoot a 0 hornady buckshot patched with ticking and 25 grains real black powder. It will take a squirrel's head clean off at close range.

Also like my scoped 10/22 when I'm in the mood.
