Squirrel rifle and CZ Farmer

First is my Ruger 10/22 squirrel rifle with a target. The target is 4 consecutive 5 shot groups fired at 25 yards. I use Remington subsonic hollowpoints for squirrel hunting. The rifle has a Volquartsen barrel and a Jewel trigger. It is a real shooter and will shoot better with target quality ammo. My 12 yo son was popping half grown acorns off a board at 25 yards with every shot this afternoon-he likes it too.

The other rifle is the CZ 513 Farmer that I bought last Saturday. I just shot 20 consecutive shots with aging eyes and iron sights at 25 yards. I need to adjust the sights a tad but it is a nice rifle too.

How do like the Subsonic's on squirrels?

Usally use Win T-22 myself picked a box of that Sub Sonics with plans to use it back in the spring season,never around to busting any with them.

BTW It did shoot good don't think it was as good as yours but good enough.

them cz's shoot good,the rugers are pot luck at times from what i have read,i have a 10/22 target thats accurate but have to make sure the action screw is tite or it with shoot a shotgun pattern :) ,i was tickeld when i got it cleaned it & it was shooting all over,started cking scope ect & then found the screw was loose.it will shoot subsonics which was a pleasant suprise.i will ck mine today as i hope to use 1 of them tomorrow,good luck this week end,mike243

Tiny, I have been using subsonics pretty much exclusively on squirrels for probably 15 years or so. I like them much better than the regular high speed hollowpoints and such for squirrel hunting.

They are quieter, one can generally hear the bullet strike with a big 'whump', and they seem to 'hit' the squirrel harder almost throwing them out of the tree. I don't know if it is increased 'dwell' time or what but they seem to really hit hard.

I first used RWS, tried Lapua and have used Ely too. They all shoot great in my accurate bolt rifles and will cycle in my 10/22. The higher end ammo does shoot tighter groups but the Remington is so much cheaper and it shoots better than I can hold in the woods anyway so I bought a case of it back in the mid 90s. I think Winchester is marketing a subsonic hollow point also but haven't tried them.

I try to make head shots as much as possible so ammo really doesn't make much difference anyway. However I can't always get a head shot or don't wait for one as squirrel hunting with a .22 rifle is a dynamic situation. They move so much and quickly too.

Anyway, try the subsonics for hunting. I think you will like them. Plateau Hunter
