Well, the leaves are off and deer season has cooled so it's on like a chicken bone!
I took a 12 ga single and shot almost a box of shells! She'd tree them and the race was on, I was shooting and reloading and running and shooting, Sib's under the timbering squirrel going nuts🤣 Lotta fun but I'm getting the 20 ga pump out and putting 7 shells in it from now on.
I don't care what anybody says but the hardest shotgun game animal to hit and kill ain't a duck or any bird, it's a timbering gray squirrel trying to get to a hole in a tree and I'll stand by that till the day I die.
We had some slick trees, some holes and some shot at but couldn't hit. Came out with 1 and left one in a nest that got in before I could shoot again. I shot the nest to make sure it was dead/ not suffer. I could see the tail sticking out so I'm sure it was dead. More pics to follow.

It was a cold one this morning, she showed me 3 but all ran and got in a den tree. They are in the thickets now that the leaves are gone and it's tough on the old man to keep up when the race is on. We're gonna give it a try tomorrow morning.
My dc 30 collar switch cracked and broke so that collar is done, I got my dc 40 on the charger now, also loaded a box of 410 #5, gotta hand scoop the shot cause that big shot won't fall in the tube, makes it kinda slow going.

Went to a new place today on the river. She treed 3, 1 slick tree, 1 I saw go in a hole and 1 that's in the bag. The lil 410#5 rolled that joker about 40 feet up, then it bit her good on the lip, she bled like a stuck hog but didn't quit till it was dead. She's got a truckload of grit.

That's a good dog right there. Had a friend who had a coon hound (don't recall the exact breed) that we always let him get hold of one alive (wounded but alive) to give him incentive.

That's a FINE pup you got! Just knowing how much a good treeing dog enjoys hunting makes me smile when I read these posts and see the pics. Us humans can find fun in multitudes of things but our 4 legged best friends really shine when they're in their element.
This here is Margie, Sibby's little sister. I'm taking them hunting in the morning, see what we can do.

I went with a buddy and his Mountain Feist Just Bob last Wednesday.
Treed 10, shot 6 lost 1.
Watching that little dude work was so much fun, I forgot to shoot a few times.
A squirrel dog is in my future.
That was absolutely the most fun you can have with pants on.🤣

I keep my fingers crossed that the akc never even knows about feists. šŸ¤žšŸ»

Last 2 morning hunts have been a bust, next time we go it'll be in the afternoon. Sib treed yesterday morning and it timbered out, she was following it through the trees and the pup was right with her. I'm not sure but I think the pup was barking too, she mighta just been cause Sibby was at the squirrel, they were going fast and I couldn't catch up. It either holed up or they lost it.

One at a time 1 guess. I can't use a shotgun without head phones cause my ears are so bad, so it's a rifle from now on. Lot tougher with a rifle.
Don't know about y'all but I'm sick of this weather.
After a while I got the squirrel outta the gamebag and showed it to Margie, she kinda smelled at it a little then snatched it away from me and took off with it! Sibby chased her and took it from her and brought it back to me! 🤣

Awesome! This thread and watching squirrel dog videos, reels, etc. has me itching to get one. Im an avid squirrel hunter, but have only really hunted them when they are cutting in early season. Dog hunting is a totally different sport and it appeals to me.

Lotta fun watching a pup learn and get good at it, been dog hunting squirrels since 1975 and it's one type of hunting that hasn't changed much at all.

Another mid day hunt, another single. She treed 2, 1st one took off and this one was way up, like a 35 yd shot. That lil Winchester wildcat with a peep sight rolled that dude with a headshot. I like that rifle more every day. Sib hunted her butt of but they just weren't moving much.

We went for a little hunt this after noon, right off Sib treed and I shot it out. She gave it a shake and normally she'll stand over it till I go get it but Margie ran up and took off with it! Sib ran her down and snatched it away from Margie then Margie ran by Sib and snatched it away again!🤣 Sib ran her down and I finally got it. Lil while later Sib trees again and as I walked up the squirrel takes off for the den tree, I'm trying to time the jumps but was too slow and the dogsare under it as it goes then it jumped outta the tree right infront of them. I thought the might catch it but it made the gum tree that was full of holes. Margie don't understand that squirrels can run up trees and she was running around and around the tree thinking " where'd it go!" 🤣 Lotta fun.

They sure are a good looking pair of dogs. I would have been on the ground laughing at the shenanigans
