Hi Steve.

Posting here since I assume others will be interested in the answer as well...

Last year I bought a sportsman's in May. This morning I was about to walk out the door to take my son fishing when I remembered an email from TWRA that said my license had expired so without checking, I went online and renewed it.

Upon inspection, my license ran from 5/31/2018— 2/28/2019 and this year my license runs from 3/16/2019 — 2/29/2020

I thought I was purchasing an annual license. Can you explain or provide a link that does?

Annual in the case of fishing and hunting licenses in Tennessee basically means from when you buy it until the end of the current sporting year(end of February).

The license year in TN runs from March 1 until the last day of February. All hunting and fishing licenses and permits expire on the last day of February.

The Apprentice License, which is basically an exemption from the hunter education requirements, does run one year from the date of purchase.
