South-facing slopes

I know the deer prefer these slops on cold mornings. My question is, how do you improve these slops for the deer? I'm thinking about thinning and hinge-cutting these slops on our property to allow more sunlight for the deer and for plant growth. What has worked for you?

I have planted pines on as many south slopes as I can and just let them go wild. Amazing the growth of these pines compared to slopes with less sunlight. 2-3 times different to be exact.

Quality hardwoods do not regrow well on south-facing slopes because of the low soil moisture in summer. If left to go natural, most south-facing slopes become dominated by Mountain Chestnut and sourwood. However, pines will do fantastic in these conditions. Whenever I'm cutting hardwoods, I replant south-facing slopes in pines while allowing other slope aspects to regrow into hardwoods.
