Grew up hunting Tellico/Citico. After losing land in west Tennessee have been hunting South Cherokee exclusively the last four years. Passed on an old monarch today that was beat to pieces. Left beam broken off, all four points broken off right beam. Had him at less than ten yards today. Hopefully he survives another winter and I can see him with all his headgear!

Ha! I've hunted some fantastic leases in this state and have killed a ton of deer and let 10 times more walk. People that have never hunted these mountains have NO idea how hard it is to see deer, and definitely how hard it is to kill a mature buck. Tremendous challenge but so rewarding. I totally do not care about the kill anymore, it's the hunt now.
 
I grew up in Polk County hunting South Cherokee. I cut my teeth there and put a lot of miles in on the trails out there. Beautiful mountains but toughest hunting in the state. I've been spoiled hunting middle of the state for the last 15 years. I still love South Cherokee just dont hunt it as much as I use to.

Similar thoughts & experience here.

Actually deer hunting in a more wilderness type area truly exemplifies the difference between real deer hunting & just shooting deer that are more or less just farm animals (or urban pets) habituated to man & being fed by man.

Totally agree TheLBLman. Grateful that I grew up hunting the mountains and then getting to hunt around the state. Learned how hard it can be. Now age and health will be the limiting factors to hunting up there. Going to try to make it last as long as possible.
