A thread elsewhere reminded me I am OUT of some basic supplies for butchering deer.

I am going to get a (middle of the road in cost) vaccuum sealer and bags. Best place for Bags?

Best place for rolls of butcher paper?

Best place for freezer tags?

Best Marker?
 
be sure when you are getting vacuum sealer bags that you get the roll, not the individual bags. The ones that are pre-cut are generally way more expensive per foot than the roll, and all you are saving yourself is a few seconds of cutting with kitchen shears. The roll allows you to cut them to custom lengths. As a result, I have been able to vacuum seal whole shoulders from smaller does, as opposed to trying to wrap them up in saran wrap or something.
 
heck all I have used is freezer bags and sharpie chisel tips. I would like to eventually try the butcher paper and/or invest in a vacuum sealer. But what I do now seems to work just fine. Need to kill me one more to stock up the freezer with various cuts....

This is where I buy all my bags. I have looked everywhere and this is the only place I can find bags or rolls that cost me less than 20 cents per bag(except for the gallon size-which are HUGE) I use the quart size 90% of the time. I keep the pint size to put small portions of jerky or about 6 slices of summer sausage in for single serve. There is no shipping or taxes and I usually get mine in the mail in less than a week. I have used rolls and I always end up spending 50 cents or more per bag. My friends and I have ordered thousands of these and have no complaints.

I have been getting all my stuff from Southern Indiana Butcher Supply. The shipping is fast (within a day or two) and they have great prices. Heck I bought natural hog casings the other day for 19$ Stuffed 52 pounds and only used 2 strands. Probably another 10 strands in the package left. Box stores get 9.99 for a package that says enough for 25 pounds.
As far equipment I shop for sales or black Friday. I did get a LEM #8 grinder for 67$ can't beat that.
