I really don't know where to start and honestly didn't think that Wesley could handle a gun enough to make the shot on a deer. However, he proved me wrong big time. Due to me not thinking that he would be ready a few months ago, I committed to fishing a tournament which was our fish off for the year and some pretty big money on the line on Saturday. He has come a long ways over the past couple of months, and I was honestly kicking myself for not committing to the entire weekend for him. That won't happen next year. It may be a good thing because I am not sure if he could have stood the cold on Saturday morning.
Anyways, yesterday morning was uneventful with no deer seen. However, I have an evening spot where I have been seeing a lot of does during bow season and purposely not shooting a doe hoping that he would have a shot at one. We got settled in the blind around 4 yesterday afternoon and two does stepped out in the field about 5:30. He made a 130 yard shot with the 30-30 that I killed my first deer with. I have spent a lot of time and money this summer getting this gun ready for him. I am about to make a 2000 post milestone post so stay tuned for that explanation.
The deer actually did not bleed a drop even though she was shot perfect. I looked at him after the shot and said "Buddy, that was a long ways and don't be disappointed if you missed. He looked me square in the eyse and said "Daddy, I had the dot right on that deer's shoulder when I shot". I said, "I know buddy, but that was a long ways" He looked me in the eyes again and said "Daddy, I had right on that deer". OK and 75 yards later there she lay with a perfect shot. I will be honest that I lost it emotionally when we saw it laying there. We sent him around the edge of the field and he "found" it.
It was an awesome evening to say the least.
