Something weird happened today!

I've been having no end of troubles with both of my muzzleloaders. I can't get either of them to fire all the time and when they fired they were all over the place! After cleaning, getting new powder, it came down to the primers! The Winchester primers I have just weren't igniting the powder like normal. I found one packet of the Remington primers I was used to using and solved the problem. I could tell the ignition was much better by the bruise on my shoulder. :D

Anyway, I just got my Traditions ML all dialed in at a hundred yards. It was just a bit low, but it was low on the bullseye and the bullets were within half an inch of each other, so I felt that was good to go.

I was just sitting back reloading my speedloaders when I look up and a DEER comes walking across the hill above my target! I hadn't reloaded my rifle because I was going to clean it today before hunting again the rest of the week. Frantically I reloaded, but I didn't get in a shot. The wind was blowing from my shooting position to where the deer was located. It was a medium sized doe, but since I haven't gotten anything this year so far, it would have been nice to put meat on the table.

Anyone else have something like that happen? I've had it happen before while shooting my air rifles where squirrels will actually go down and SIT ON MY TARGETS! I guess the air rifle pellets sound like nuts falling or something to them.

Few years ago we were sighting in ML's and I had shot, my stepdad had shot and we were reloading and a doe walked out right up on the hill from our target at the bottom of the hill. Too bad it was archery season that day.

I have been shooting my bow in the backyard and look up to see deer either behind the target or in the neighbors yard. One of these days that one nanner is gonna get a thunderhead treatment...

happened to me a few weeks ago, shooting my muzzleloader. had 4 or 5 does and 6 point walking around. they would just look up everytime i'd shoot, then go right back to what they were doin.

damndest thing i'd ever seen. it's like they knew i couldn't shoot at them yet. i finally had to quit shooting (it was getting dark anyways) but they were behind my targets!

I've had to wait for deer to get out of the way before I could shoot my bow targets on several occasions.

Reminds me of target shooting at Owl Hollow Gun Club. Stopped to clean guns and let them cool off and several does come troting across the line of fire. I figured they must have been deaf from hanging out around the range.

I think I started out paying like $20 bucks a year. Take off work during the week have the range to myself and shoot all day.

When I was in the Army, we'd have to wait until two things happened to open fire at the tank range. First, they would sound a horn and the Elk would move off the range. :) The prairie grass was always catching on fire and the newly grown grass was nice and tender.

The other thing was that they built the range right on a location where some sort of prairie chickens mate! We had to wait until they did their thing and flew off before we could shoot. :D
