No this is not a post about 2 or 3 buck limits or about how many bucks you killed or about the dadburn soil . It's also not about weather you are a trophy hunter , cull buck hunter or about only mature buck hunter , sorry !! All I would like to know if you had a great time hunting ? Did your child or grandchild have a great time hunting ? Did you enjoy your time participating in your time in field or did your standards put undue pressure on you were you couldn't enjoy your hunt ? We sometimes forget what we take for granted , some have to worry about putting food on the table for their family not about weather that buck your after will present himself today ! I could care less who kills what although I may be envious I'm not jealous . This a sport to me so if I don't enjoy it I will quit ! Some do make a living out of it so I know their participation will be different than mine that's a given . Hope all of you along with those who went with you had a great season were you at least enjoyed yourself no matter what you killed !!!
 
Yes I always enjoy deer season whether I'm successful or not... As I get older I realize I only have so many deer seasons left so I try to enjoy them all...... Now I'll be the first to admit I get aggravated when Elmer finds me at the fort!!!!
 
It was another memorable year for me as well. Great memories for sure.

Looking even more forward to enjoying the next one.

The highlight of my 2015 deer season involved my tracking and finding a buck, when the shooter had given up on finding it.

He's always asking me "where" I'm hunting, or showing up everywhere I go, seeming to think I only hunt the best "spot", when my primary criteria for hunting any particular spot has become to avoid any spot Elmer has been!
 
Had a fun season. Didn't hunt nearly as much as normal and saw ZERO antlered bucks while in stand. Normally I have 20-40 buck sightings in a season.
Hunted by myself 2x and enjoyed those hunts but not nearly as much as the rest of my hunts with friends.
Got to hunt a new deer camp with buddies and killed 2 wild hogs. Got a freezer full of meat and some great memories with friends.

Funny thing is, I don't really miss the bucks. Had a couple whoppers on trail cam and didn't really put much effort into hunting them. (those 2 solo hunts).
Without being obsessed with big bucks, hunting season is a lot more fun and satisfying than it used to be. My hunts are never "ruined" by a neighbor or another hunter, and I almost NEVER have a bad hunt regardless of how it goes.
 
I had one of my most memorable seasons. Like someone else stated, as I have gotten older, I tend to think about how few seasons I have left - and am determine to enjoy the ones I do, good Lord willing.

A good friend and I hunt 1 week per year together - been doing that for 15 years. We have never killed a buck during those 15 year/1 week span. This year, we both killed nice bucks. It was a great day!

Then, my elderly hunting partner shot a nice buck. I went to help him find it. We found no sign that night. We came back the next morning and I brought another of our friends along. After looking for a couple of hours - we had all but given up, when the other boy I brought with me found. We celebrated and were so happy. The man who shot the buck has been my hunting partner for over 20 years. He is 78 years old, and I know his hunting days are winding down. I was very thankful that he shot a nice buck and that we were able to find it.

These are some memories I will always be thankful for. To me, that's what deer hunting is all about!

Next year I am going to start hunting the fort. Does that mean I will automatically be "Elmer" since I'm gonna be a rookie there?
 
Great posts and I had a good time also hunting with my grandson . I miss those who used to hunt with me as a group and as some have stated I know my years are dwindling down . Good to hear those posts with pep in there step instead of downing each other because of opinions . :tu:
 
Absolutely always have a good season I pray to the good Lord I get to do it again next year. A heck of a lot better then sitting at home or going to work. My biggest goal for every season is to introduce someone new into hunting. And I have every year for the last 5 years I hope I can do the same next year. It's to great of a sport for someone not to realize how amazing it really is.
 
Your post is a great idea.We all sometimes get too intense and forget the real important reasons we hunt.I lease from a friend who has been fighting cancer.He is not a hunter,but he enjoys me telling him what I have seen on my hunts and admiring any deer I take.Thanks to the grace of God,we just found out that he is in remission now and we will have more time to share our friendship.This has been a great season for me just for that reason.

Great news and Praise God .
 
I had a very enjoyable year. Last year my oldest son was in from the military and spent two weeks hunting with me.This year my youngest son spent about 10 days hunting with me. Both killed a good buck.Made the seasons really enjoyable. Also we set up a deer camp with big cook tent with a 55 galleon drum wood stove. Hard to beat the evenings with a good hot meal, nice warm fire, good cup of coffee and the friendship of guys I have hunted with for years. I look forward to every deer season.
 
I was more selective with bucks than I have ever been before. I had a great season. I saw several good bucks and I shot a bunch of does. I love hunting the does too. Killed them on public and private land, got to hunt some of my favorite places as well as some new places. Can't complain about that.

I had a blast! I killed a nice 9 and got to see a few other nice bucks. Saw a few chases as well. My daughter killed a button (normally she would let it go but wanted to test her new handload in her 260). My son killed a spike and a doe. Great hunting time with the family and plenty of meat for the freezer. Great year.

count me in if you are going, I'll get the permit and go learn some new territory. Also like the sound of the January turkey season. Nothing else to do in January!
 
Heck yeah I had a good time. Aint no such thing as a bad day hunting just some better than others. Best thing about this season was my son killed his 1st. Have taken many little ones thru out the years with some getting their 1st but there aint nothing like your own. The fact that he simply killed wasn't what was so wonderful but the control during the shot, him knowing to wait on the shot, his excitement, his realization that he not dad was putting meat in the freezer, and his understanding that killing is more about meat in the freezer than horns on the wall. So hell yeah I had a great time hunting this season.
 
Had a great season. Got my best buck this season and got to put a lot of does in the freezer. Was lucky to be able to go a lot this year with my semester schedule giving me Friday's off.
 
It was the finest year! Many new hunts with my youngest son for his first season, and he killed a few. I managed about 40 of these sunrises and much more, but I mainly hunt to be out there, don't matter if nothing happens....can't get much better peace these days.

Great year. Killed the fewest deer ever (course that's only 4 years for me) but also got my biggest buck ever. Really enjoyed the companionship at camp and the new guys I met were awesome as were my old friends.

As A rule, I meet great people on golf courses and deer hunts. I guess the similar interests we share makes it easier to make new friends....
 
Great thread and post above. I did have a good season. But not for the hunting. I worked so much I didn't get to enjoy very much. I was able to harvest my first ever mature buck. What made my season great is I finally found some like minded guys that want to hunt like I do, and we had a great start up year for the hunt club. I was loosing my drive for deer hunting, but this club and hunters associated with it have restored my love of deer hunting. And I can't wait for the years to come.
 
snake this is my kind of topic I like reading.....thank you ....no one says anything bad or downing anything and just reflect on what a blessing it is for us to be able to hunt and make memories with others and realize what god has given us.....good comradery ......that's what ive grown to like about tndeer.....and what I hope it stays and leave some of the bs topics alone where everyone just fusses....again thank you and I too had a great season and enjoyable....took my 7 year old twins numerous times but they haven't connected yet but always fun....maybe they can kill their second turkey this spring....looking forward to that....
 
Thanks for all the replies come on guys and gals let us know how great a time you had hunting . Some have had issues and couldn't hunt , lets reflect on those hoping the upcoming year Lord willing that those who weren't able have a fantastic time this year . I believe it was Mike Belt who had an accident keeping him from hunting could have been any of us , right . Carl hunting from a wheelchair what determination , love for the outdoors and not feeling sorry for himself but have preserverance to continue on . I know there are others that have problems trying to deter them from enjoying God's great outdoors but they find a way to go . You that go hunting against all odds does not go unnoticed for you give me that determination also , because I do have a very bad back and whine but when I read about some on here I realize how minuscule my problems are . We also have those here who help others to be able to enjoy the sport of hunting ,Lade (da) Os2Outdoors (Matt) I think and many others that I tip my hat to you also . Those that give advice a real help indeed and this site is full of it , so thanks to all of you . We get passionate here about opinions but generally speaking a really great bunch here !!!?
 
Great season this year,every season is good.One of my best sets was when i stalked up to a thicket between two fields.When i got setup that evening there was a nice 8 pointer ,6 pointer ,and a couple small bucks chasing does.I couldnt make up my mind if i wanted to shoot the 8 at first,but decided i was gonna wait for something better.As it got closer to dark more does came to the field,17doe i believe.Had a doe come up to the fence line i was in and she was fixing to jump the fence beside me,probally 5-1o ft from me lol.Itook my hand a raked the leaves around and she tried to make me out but couldnt.Right at dark had the same thing happen with another doe and after she ran away from the fence looking at me trying to make me out the 8 chased her off,best hunt i thought i have ever had.Well a week or two later the guy i hunt on wanted me to take his 11yr old boy hunting.We setup and saw a few does early.About a hour from dark we saw a nice deer chase does probally 350 yrds away from us.Twenty minutes later he jumps the fence in front of us at 135yrds,his dad said not to let him take a shot over 125yrds away.He walked the fence and came to our left and he had a shot 110-120yrds away,but couldnt get steady and he walked out of range.I told him to get up and we would try to stalk it and get a shoot,got him 40yrds from him and his was locked up fighting another buck and he never saw what hit him.I got real lucky the way the land layed helped alot but fighting the other buck sealed the deal,they werent paying attention to us.When his dad found out he asked me a few times yall really stalked him and got within 40yrds,he couldnt believe it,best hunt to date :super:
