Some QDM success

Although the first (warm) part of the 1st MZ was pretty dead, things did pick up substantially once the weather began to change. From Wednesday through Saturday we saw numerous older bucks and quite a bit of chasing.

Here's some harvests:

A niece with her first deer ever (her first deer season as well). The buck is a 2 1/2 year-old 8-point that grossed 86 and live-weighed 155 lbs:

A brother-in-law with a 3 1/2 year-old 10-point that grossed 119 and live-weighed 174 lbs (the buck was chasing does):

Another brother-in-law with a 4 1/2 year-old 8-point that grossed 120 and live-weighed 214 lbs. The buck was scent-checking a food plot from the down-wind side:

We downed a few does as well.

It's not always about taking deer, as your well aware Bryan - the look on your niece's face would make just about anyones season :)

I know the feeling....have seen nine deer, two very nice sized bucks and they had the advantage.....but the season isn't over....

After 9 days in a stand, my total deer sightings are 4 yearling bucks. Not even a doe.

Very true. Always fun to see hunters succeed, especially when you know you helped "grow" or at least attract that deer to the property.

She's said her friends have been amazingly supportive. They want to hear the story over and over again. I think it's probably because she breaks all the hunter stereotypes Yalies probably have, plus we take such a scientific angle to our hunting and management.

It's good to see you back on here I was dying to see how yall did. Your luck sounds about like mine. I had a monster get spooked off by a dog and I was only waiting on him to turn broadside. He would have been my biggest buck, I have no clue where he came from I've never seen him before. Then this afternoon I had another big shooter that I've been trying to even lay eyes on all year coming right to me until the neighbors decided to start playing WW3, again!

I got a guy that wants you to look at a jaw bone off an 8pt he killed in Davidson county that grossed 168.

Yup, that's the one. After being rebuilt, it's never missed a lick and really taken a beating. I drive it every day for my work. I hate to think of the number of hard miles that have been put on that thing.

She is an interesting and worldly girl. One of her roommates last year was Tony Blair's son (recent Prime Minister of the United Kingdom). The whole Blair family came to dinner one night, machine-gun toting security detail and all!

bsk, i have seen you mention this before on mature buck kills. is this a common stand selection for you guys and what are some others. i know you discourage actually hunting in a plot. would your strategy be different if about all your property was cut over security cover? thanks.

Excellent pics and I'm glad your family had a great time, as well
as yourself. I have had down times hunting, when others were doing well. It never bothered me though, because I got alot of
joy being around their excitement.

There is nothing like camp talk and sharing in someone elses
sucsess. When you are the "one", it is great if they feel the
same way.

I have never been jelous about another's kill, because I always
have hope that they appreciate their good fortune.

Well I'm not single but than again I'm not married! If I met a girl that goes to Yale and likes to deer hunt it could change pretty quick! Ha...congrats to her and the rest of your crew. I'm praying activity picks up in the next week but I guess we will find out.
