A Picture from my ground blind.

Last night I went down to Roane county to try my luck. I'm having ZERO luck in Knox County so I went to where I've killed my biggest deer. The landowner finally mowed the field and that made it a lot easier to see if anything was around. The wind was perfect from the north. I didn't see any deer and vowed to stay until it was dark before walking out. Right as it approached 7:30 EST, I heard a horrible screech! Sure enough an owl caught a mouse right in front of my stand! Never seen it happen before. The owl played with it for awhile before devouring it. Really a neat thing to see. I couldn't take a picture or video because it was too dark for the camera to pick up anything. :( I'd love to have that to show the kiddos if nothing else.

Out the side window. I 40 is about 300 yards up the power line right of way. I only have to walk about a third of a mile to get back here. It isn't that far, but if you actually get a deer it is a hard drag since it is mostly uphill.

Fast forward to this morning. My son had a baseball game in Rockwood so I didn't plan to stay in the blind much after 9 AM. Honestly, I've never seen so many squirrels and chipmunks! Normally I take an air rifle with me, but this morning I didn't do it. I think I easily would have had a limit. One of them was so close I could have grabbed it. My blind this morning was one of those half blinds like you use to hunt turkeys. In fact I was sitting in my turkey hunting chair with the blind wrapped around me.

Looking over my little food plot. I've got to blow the leaves off of some of it so the rest of it will come up.

I'm hunting behind this subdivision at the request of the landowner. Between the baseball game I needed to attend and a really cold fog rolling in off of Fort Loudon like, it wasn't a hard decision to get up and leave. As I was leaving there were deer in the yards all along the way. I think if I would have blown off the game and just stayed seated, eventually the deer would have came by going to their beds. I've only seen one buck here, but I'm sure as the rut approaches they will start showing up.

Deer behind the neighbor's car! They are taunting me!

Tomorrow I hope to get up before church and head over there. The landowner had some trees cut. Last year, after she did that I didn't see another deer. :( I'm going to vacate the property until ML season, which is when I've had the most success (every year). However in the morning I'm taking my air rifle and my new gun/camera rig over there to try and film some squirrel hunting. :) The air rifle is a tuned Gamo Whisper. It is deadly accurate and deadly quiet. Oh and BTW I'm taking my crossbow just in case of a stupid deer. :D
