Soil Testing Question

Where can I get my soil tested? I had heard somewhere at the Ellington Agricultural Center, but where and through what service? Is there a website or number to call? Thanks.

The NRCS office has boxes you can get and fill up then mail off. You will get the results back in the mail. Sometimes Co-Ops or other farm supply store will too.

Gil,
If you are wanting tests on soil at your lease in Hickman Co, you can pick up the sample bags at the Co-op in Centerville, take them back to them and they will send them off for testing. Wait a couple of weeks and pick up your print out sheet of soil status, and specific recommendations for fertilizer / lime application rates if you tell them what you want to plant. They have never charged me, but I only take them 2-3 different samples at a time (I also buy my most of my food plot seed and fertilizer from them, so that may be why they don't charge me for the soil analysis).

You can get soil test kits mailed to you from Whitetail Instiute for about $10. They use a lab in Memphis and will email you the results if you want them to.

For soil tests I have always used the Co-op (the one further from the square), not the feed store right next to the square. The Co-op is also usually somewhat cheaper and carries a greater variety of food plot seeds in my experience.
