Food Plots Soil preparation

Just wanted to share photos showing the benefits using a cultipacker after disking. Our soils will have large clumps after we use a disk harrow. We spray, burn, disk, lime, smooth the soil with a cultipacker, broadcast seed, and then roll over the area again. This is a lot of work but produces better germination and plant growth.

Of course, we need rain, but we did our part for the fall plots.

You need a steady slow rain!

While that prep work looks beautiful, I just can't help but wonder how much topsoil you lost as dust prepping it.

Get a gullywasher and there will be rivulet channels all over from erosion.

I think we often focus too much on how pretty a plot looks, when that matters little to deer.

Interesting question. No doubt a drill would be a better option, but not in our budget. I am always looking for better methods...

Looks good. Sometimes you have to do what suits you and not worry about the EXPERTS opinions. If you are satisfied with it then that is what matters.
