So stupid I had to laugh

I took a boat down to the ramp today to move the whole winch stand towards the rear to fit the shorter boat right. I backed the boat in letting the strap have about 5' of slack so the boat would float back. I loosen the bolts and use a hammer to make the stand move across the rust and backwards.

Now another couple show up wanting to get off the water so I pulled the boat up and pulled off the ramp. I checked it out and I needed to move the stand back another 6". While waiting to get the ramp again I decided to remove a rope we had hooked to the eye on the front of the boat.

When the couple left the ramp I backed the boat back down and when I thought it was in deep enough I hit the breaks so it would slide back away from the winch stand oooOH!!! %$(*) I forgot to connect the hook back to the boat after untying the rope. :o I jammed the truck in park and jump out as I watch my boat float away. I started wading out the ramp and just before the water got to my pocket I thought of my wallet and tossed it up on the bank.

Now the water is over my head and I am swimming for it. I have jeans and tennis shoes on and am not a great swimmer but Hey I GOT this, after all the life jackets are in the boat :eek:

I get to the boat and grab the trolling motor. After catching my breath I started paddling backwards with my legs. This whole time people are standing a couple hundred yards away being entertained. After getting the boat back to the trailer and feeling good about that even laughing at how funny it all was I realized my cell phone is still in my pocket :cry: :cry: :sick:

The 14 boat is gone now a guy picked it up but now I need to buy a phone. Laugh with me or at me or both :)

Gonna put mine in one day and got my rope. It's around 30 ft. and hooked it to the boat and for some reason hooked the other end to the boat also. It's a lonely feeling watching you boat drift out without you. :blush:

i was sitting in my buddies boat one time waiting for him to back me in the water, we had unhooked the front of the boat and about half way down the ramp he hits the breaks a little harder than he should have and the boat slid off the trailor before we were even close to the water. it ruined the bottom of his boat and his insurance covered it

I have done both, having to swim after the boat and having the boat come off the trailer before it was in the water. I unhooked my boat and my wife got in an arguement with me and stomped off and I forgot I unhooked it and backed it in the water. A freind of mine replaced the carpet on his trailer. We had always disconnected the boat before backing it down because we have never had an issue until the new slicks.

Fishin a tourney one evening and was running a little late. Buddy put me in the water and while he was parking the truck my bilge pump came on and it hit me. I hollered for him to get back down there with the trailer and it drained for awhile. Gotta use the plug.

Back a trailer into the water enough and something like that will eventually happen. I was duck hunting and camping on the river for a couple of days. First trip into the water with the boat and it wasn't attached to the trailer and started floating away. I went in with waders on, filled them, and spent the rest of the weekend freezing in them.

We have all done things like that. I forgot to put the plug in my bass boat once and also had a rope come loose and watched my boat float out into the lake by itself. Probably the dumbest thing I ever did was run my battery down trying to start my outboard without realizing the fuel line was not hooked up. :D
