So from what I can gather on facebook (it must be true) and from listening to people that I know :

TN hired this dude from Penn State two weeks ago and signed a contract with him.
When at Penn State he walked in on child molesting in progress and did nothing, said nothing.
Now TN "fired" him and he gets a 20 million dollar "buy out" of his contract.

Is that all really true?

I'm not bashing or trying to start trouble, I honestly don't follow any of it enough to know the facts, I am sincerely curious if it all played out like I am hearing.

I don't think they signed a contract just a memorandum of understanding. Which should be non binding. From my understanding

Yep... Pretty much came to an agreement and had the guy verbally hired. Then they turn around and basically fire him on the day it was going to be announced.

What's even more interesting is that the AD claims that he didn't know that the guy coached at Penn St. or the allegations. What kind of background did they do on a guy that they were going to pay millions too.

I'm not sure if the allegations are true or not but the UT fans sure didn't like it....

Now back to Gruden... :)

Again, I don't follow or know much about football but that don't sound like a man that needs to be in that position then.
If that is true he is stupid.
If he ain't that stupid then he is a liar.
Either way, he needs to be fired if either are accurate.

No No No.

In deposition testimony of Mike McCreary, a former Penn State assistant, who was suing Penn State to recover several million dollars of damages as a "whistleblower" (he is the guy who did see Sandusky molesting a boy in the shower and finally said something to Paterno months later), McCreary testified in 2012 or 2013 timeframe that Tom Bradley, another Penn State assistant, told McCreary in 2001 that Schiano had heard a rumor, when Schiano was a Penn State assistant in 1990-1995, and told Bradley about said rumor that Sandusky was molesting boys. There is no testimony that Schiano ever saw Sandusky doing anything and never came forward.

Yes, UT is going to pay Schiano.

Not one of those "coaches" should ever coach again in their lifetime. Choose football over kids being raped. Ignorant my butt; there's a reason all those coaches stopped going to sandusky's charity golf outings. :bash:

Thank you sir.

Scioto, if this douchenugget wasnt at Ohio State right now, you would not be here trying to take up for him. TN just settled in a Title 9 lawsuit last year. If there is any shred of doubt that Schiano knew anything about it, he should have never been in the running. Ever. I keep hearing Urbs and Belichik have vouched for Schiano. Both of these guys were former coaches of Aaron Hernandez. Good judges of character there.

The fact is, TN fans have been lied to and used for years. Big Jim Haslam is the puppet master on the hill and has been behind all of it. When Dave Hart left, everybody wanted David Blackburn or Phil Fulmer for AD because they were thought of as TN guys that would be dedicated to winning. Blackburn was all but hired and then out of nowhere come Currie. Guess how that happened. Haslam back doored him in so he would have a yes man. Haslams tried to Hire Schiano at the Browns and the main guy vetoed it. He got fired. Now enter Currie at TN and he tried to get Schiano in. The Haslams have used UTK as their personal play pen for far too long. We have been lied to during this whole fiasco. Post Butch firing at the presser, Currie says money is no object. No search firm, will be a big, expensive and explosive hire. They are looking for a coach with high character and morals and somebody that is the best fit at UT. He then goes on and has the AD to put out smokescreens of airplanes flying everywhere all the while he goes to the Bahamas and sits around Knoxville doing nothing. He does nothing to squash Gruden rumors so that he has a good cover while he sneaks around to hire Schiano. He even went around to other prominent boosters,VFLs and power players asking about different coaches and what their opinions of them were, including Schiano. Just about all of them didnt give him any support for a Schiano hire and he snuck around and tried to do it anyway.

I dont care what any of you in here think, I dont care what the national or local media think. We may in fact be dead in the water because of this and if so, it is what it is. I am proud to be a member of the Vol nation that rose up yesterday to nuke this hire because enough is enough and I hope it cuts the UTK administration to the bone. There are big money boosters, low level booster etc pulling funds right and left. Good luck with that 340 million Stadium renovation.

Not quite. Exact testimony was he heard Schiano did walk in:

"No, only that he had—I can't remember if it was one night or one morning, but that Greg had come into his office white as a ghost and said he just say Jerry doing something to a boy in the shower. And that's it. That's all he ever told me."

He said. He said. He said. Never proven by McCreary in his case. Investigated by PA AG. Never proven. Vetted by NFL. Never proven. Vetted by Ohio State. Never proven.

Be honest, but don't hop on the PC scial media express and spread unproven, likely false allegations. It's ok to not want any coach associated with the Paterno era, whether as a lowly GA coaching his first year to the coordinator coaching multi years. That's one thing but assassinating a man's character based on unproven recollections of what one guy (who denied ever saying it) ten or more years prio said another guy said is irresponsible.

I really think this has everything to do with UT fans not wanting a boring, cold hard ass NJ guy who one time coached Rutgers and was hard on his millionaire pro players at Tampa than it does with Penn State.

And don't forget, McCreary's testimony has changed at least five times over the years about what he saw, heard, and did.

Better not let Brady Hoke get away. That's your coach.

I would rather have Hoke than Schiano.

Even if none of the Ped State stuff is true, it doesn't change the fact that he had very contentious relationships with players, and was likely fired from Tampa Bay for the same. We just went through that, and don't need a Jones 2.0.

Like I said, if he wasnt OS DC right now, you wouldnt care.

Id like nothing more than a hard nosed football coach. But not this scuzzball.

We are hearing that the deal may not get done with Schiano after the backlash and State Representatives getting involved. As I stated in the live video, we don't like to dabble in the "rumors" but this situation is very fluid right now. It seems that AD John Currie might have lost some, if not all, support within the Athletic Department and talks of his dismissal could be imminent. Again, this news is very fluid right now and can change very quickly.

20 Million . And a couple of weeks ago everyone was worried about the 8 Million it was going to cost to buy out Butch . Oh my .

. Are you kidding me ?

He's lying through his freaking teeth .

A simple google search turned up his Penn State fiasco . Your telling me your going to pay millions to a guy and hand over a delicate program that is already in shambles to a guy and not even do a simple google search on him ???? BC!!!!

This was much more than "delusional Tn fans" raising a stink on Twitter. As was stated, State Reps spoke up as well as a lot of big money boosters not named Haslam. Boosters let it be known they would pull their funds if it happened. 340 mil stadium renovation? Gonna need more than Haslam money to pull that off.

They need to, that's for sure.
As I said before, any AD that doesn't know where someone has worked in the past before offering them a job is an idiot.
If he did know, then he is a liar.

Tennessee "carefully interviewed and vetted" potential coaching hire Greg Schiano, athletic director John Currie said a statement Monday in defense of his coaching search and the end it almost reached.

The Vols reportedly had a deal in place with the Ohio State defensive coordinator on Sunday morning. But the deal fell through by the end of the day after intense backlash from the fan base, state representatives and local business owners.

"We carefully interviewed and vetted him, as we do candidates for all positions," Currie said in the statement. "He received the highest recommendations for character, family values and commitment to academic achievement and student-athlete welfare from his current and former athletics directors, players, coaching colleagues and experienced media figures."

Much of the uproar after USA TODAY reported that Schiano was in line to be the next Tennessee coach stemmed from his time on the staff at Penn State in the early 1990s. Schiano spent five seasons in Happy Valley, four as the defensive backs coach on the staff of convicted child sexual abuser Jerry Sandusky.

Probably rigtfully so.

Lots of Legal Mumbo Jumbo being thrown around in the 20 Million dollar buy out of Schiano. Tortious Interference > it could could have some serious impact on Schiano getting a future job . I figure they will wind up settling this matter out of court but who knows. Schiano could take this all the way and win big.

I hear that Shiano wanted to back out as much as TN did and he ripped up the MOU after being informed, I don't think there will be a buyout.

I agree with people being able to voice their displeasure about Schiano being the next UT coaching hire. It was much more than just upset fans who voiced their concerns and displeasure when they heard about the pending announcement of his hire.

The problems this may create could be very severe and this could also make getting a great coach hired much more difficult. I'm no legal expert, but there may very well be some financial problems that UT may have to work through because of the "Memorandum of Understanding" that Currie and Schiano signed.

Did Currie not seek out the necessary support from the University for Schiano before becoming that involved with the man? Whose overseeing Currie?

Do the UT fans suddenly feel empowered and believe that they can gather and protest every potential hire in the future if they disagree? This could be very problematic. Especially with today's society and the way people are quick to react and judge. There is simply no coaching candidate out there that will make everyone and all UT fans happy. I would hate to see next year's football season begin and fans protesting outside the stadium at every home game because they don't like the new coach, or disagree with the person who gets the job. As we all have seen here lately, people protest everything imaginable!

Social media revealed itself in a very crude way yesterday. UT fans need to realize the impact they are having in this process, both negatively and positively. The negativity was taken to extreme levels yesterday and that is not good for the University and/or the process. One thing I have learned as a retired military veteran and a retired law enforcement officer, being negative and behaving negative only creates more negativity and it does more harm than good!

What potential coaching hire would want to be exposed to potential backlash and fans protesting before they even sign their first recruit, or even coach their first UT game? Even though I am glad they are not following through with hiring Schiano for my own reasons, other potential future candidates may not want to even come to UT now because of how Schiano's hiring/firing went down. Much more thought should have went into this process before it got to the point it reached yesterday.

I realize some may think I am being judgmental, but I think UT should take a good hard look at John Currie and how he has handled this situation. I know that if I make bad decisions where I work that potentially cost my employer millions of dollars (or even thousands of dollars), I am going to be fired very quickly. My salary is much less than John Currie's salary, by the way! In my opinion, he's getting paid big money to do a very important job with a lot of responsibility so I hold him accountable for how this process is being handled. The University must do what is necessary to get control of this situation immediately. Moving forward from this point, the process needs to be done correctly and professionally. The people tasked with handling this process need to realize the long term impact they are having on the future of the UT VOLS football program, and all UT sports.

I am a lifelong UT fan and I must admit it was embarrassing and disappointing the way the events played out yesterday. The whole season this year has been an embarrassment to the University of Tennessee and the fans. The people in responsible positions at UT don't need to continue to do things that are embarrassing to the institution and/or the fans. Tennessee fans deserve for the process to be handled in a professional manner and expect the UT administration to be professional. The institution needs to better manage the process and ensure that this type of scenario does not play out again.

Just my opinion!

I read that ONE report and it did not sound like it was coming from the Schiano camp to me. Sounded more like a smoke screen to me. Guess Time will tell.

You make some good points. There are going to be some vol fans that are going to be unhappy with whoever they hire unless its Gruden and I feel sure Gruden is a flat NO.

Yesterday's Fiasco crated more problems than ever for a already struggling program.

Guess Programs in the future will have to go to social media and let the fans decide before a hire in the future.

How much do you think a man's reputation is worth on top of the liquidated damages provision in the MOU?
