were planting food plots in the spring on a new lease is there anything to plant that works all the way thru from spring till end of deer season? maybe a mix of clover and alfalfa?

Whitetail Institute EXTREME. Not sure if it will work everywhere as well as where I've seen it planted, but it worked leaps and bounds better than anything I've ever seen planted before. Deer started using it as soon as it came up last spring. Still in it everyday right now. 3 good bucks killed out of it this deer season.

Perennials last throughout the year, but unfortunately most perennials tend to go dormant during the winter months.

If I had few acres of food plot, I would focus most on fall/winter annuals planted in fall.

If I had considerable acreage in food plots I would have 40% in perennials and 60% in annuals, both spring/summer and fall/winter (requiring planting twice a year--spring and fall).

Perennials have the advantage of not having to be replanted twice a year or even each year. Annuals have the advantage of producing more forage during the seasons targeted.
