a few questions....? not sure if i would gamble on whether or not to skip on quality or performance on what many might consider safety equipment.

1-best snake boots on the market?

2- best snake boot for the money?

3-mid calf or to the knee?

I had a pair of Rocky's.
I loved how they felt.
I hated how they leaked.

If I had the money I believe I would go with Danner's.

I have a pair of Rocky's also. I agree with ruger they feel good but leak like crazy. I treat them about twice a year with the spray sealer.

Had the Rocky's and same water leak issue as ruger. I bought a pair of snake chaps that just buckle around your leg and used them the first time the other weekend. Wore my muck field blazers with them and they were very comfortable. They were $35-40 at Academy Sports and saw them in a newspaper ad today on sale for $25 I think.

Just got a pair of Irish Setter waterproof snake boots.
Please tell me which Irish Setter boot and where you got them.

The absolute BEST snake boots I've ever had were (and are) an Irish Setter boot that I thought had been discontinued. Am currently working on wearing out my 2nd pair of this boot, which was basically an very nice hiking boot with a snakeguard, extremely lightweight, very comfortable.

THIS is the Irish Setter snake boot that I have liked above all others (including Bass Pro's, leaky Rocky's, and Cabela's):

BUT GOOD LUCK IN FINDING A PAIR OF THESE!

Some Whitewater buckle snake chaps and non-insulated Alpha burly Sports have been my spring turkey combo due to creeks and wet grass every morning. I still wear my Rocky snake boots when I'm pretty sure it is going to be dry since they stayed waterproof for all of one hunt.

But WHAT 'YA GOIN' TO DO, when a snake bites you?
. . . . on the toe? Top of the forefoot?
Those rattler fangs are going thru those Alpha burlys like butter.

I guess a toe or foot bite would be less serious than on one's leg, but suspect the most likely places to be struck are below the ankle anywhere on the foot?

That said, the only one that's ever hit me hard, struck me about an inch above the ankle, and presume those chaps would have protected me as well as the snake boots I was wearing. Will scare the crap out of you regardless, especially when you're still standing there within repeated striking range.

I have those Irish Setter snake boots. They are fantastic. I got them on closeout sale from Cabela's in Jan 2011. Sadly, they have been discontinued and are no longer available. It's very unfortunate.

That's about when and where I purchased my 2nd pair. My first pair was still in good shape, but saw them on sale at Cabela's and just went ahead and ordered another. Really glad I did, as have been wearing that 2nd pair now for about a year. Believe 1st pair lasted me about 3 years before soles started coming apart (but still weren't leaking). Wore the snot out of them, including wearing them for most of my trail work, mowing, scouting, turkey hunting, and even some deer hunting.

Have been "protecting" this 2nd pair better, including more frequent Obenauf's heavy duty treatments. I get them wet a lot, which is probably why didn't get more years from the 1st pair.

I saw that, but they're only available in a size 10 (assume standard width). Mine are 11.5 Wides. Wish they had them in my size.

They were originally available in both standard & wide widths, and half sizes. They seemed to run a little small to me, as most my hiking boots are either 10 1/2 or 11 EE.

Late 90 's I had a pair of rocky snake boots. They were awesome wore them for years never leaked or anything. Once they wore out I bought another pair. They leaked right off the bat. I stop buying rocky boots for anything. After many brands I have found that the irish sitters are the best snake boots for my money. I have never tried danner.

I have the LaCrosse snake boots, over the calf, lace w/side zip. Very comfy. It was the best fitting I found but I haven't tried the Donners yet. Seem to be very dry so far. Had them since May.
