Smokeless powder?

Ok, I went back ten pages to see if anyone had aske this and I didnt see anything, so here goes. A man told me that he shoots regular rifle powder out of his encore. He said measured properly it was safe and he got MOA groups. Is this true? Im a pellet and power belt man, never thought you could do that.

Don't do it!!! Unless your muzzleloader is rated for smokeless (Savage) then you are playing Russian Roulette.

Black powder and its substitutes generate about 15k psi, IIRC, if used within their reccomended charge weights, and have a very slow pressure curve. Smokeless powder has a much faster pressure curve and can easily generate triple (or more) that pressure with half of the charge weight, depending on what powder you use.

The encore FRAME will handle rifle pressures, the barrel MAY or MAY NOT, DON'T DO IT!!!! Not saying the other guy is lying, it may work for a while, but you never know which one is gonna blow your face off. I'm a smokeless guy, not scared of smokeless, but if the barrel is not rated for smokeless, don't shoot smokeless. Easiest way to shoot smokeless in an encore, buy a 45/70 centerfire barrel send it to SMI and for $115 they'll install a Savage breech plug and you shoot smokeless all day in your .45 Encore.
