Smokeless Powder ML

If you do shoot a smokeless muzzleloader, why did you go that route? If you don't, why not?...price, experience, availability, what you have works? Just curious...Thanks!

The main thing for me that I enjoy is not having to clean a muzzleloader after a hard day of hunting and needing to get up early the next morning. I've also enjoyed being able to watch the deer after the shot and not have the smoke cloud to deal with. I realize that I trade some "tradition" for that benefit, but I'm OK with the trade. It has extended my comfortable range a little, but is basically the same game for me as with the blackpowder.

Same here. Smokeless is more reliable, not to mention, you can run many smokeless rounds thru it without having your poi shifting, and then still not be a big deal whether you clean it this week or next.

Guess I'm more into hunting than tradition.

How so? I've sat thru some good rain and snow storms with my caplocks and flintlock...they've never let me down.

More reliable, and yes I've sat out all day with a caplock only to hear a lite pop at the end of the day. More knockdown power, better range, 10x easier to maintain/clean, superb accuracy, less corrosive powder, less recoil, etc. I read reviews on them for hours to learn to pros/cons before I bought mine.

A friend who LIVES to hunt with a ML got a Savage when they first came out...he's had more miss-fires than the rest of us all put together...had every gunsmith in our area look at it and can't find nothing wrong with it...I'm want'n one, but am a little leary...

Nothing to be leery of.

Using the correct bullet/sabot and powder type will cure 90% of his misfires. The other thing it could be is if he has the original 10ML with the percussion modules - he could have a module that needs shimming for a tight seal.

A gunsmith would not know any of the above - not because they aren't a good 'smith - just because they don't know what it takes to make the system work.

Tell him to use only .452" bullets with black sabots and use an easy to ignite powder such as 5744 or 4759.

Also- read Doug's board and the site below. It's Rick Bibby's website (rb on Doug's board) and the man is a genius when it comes to smokeless muzzleloading.

Cost effectiveness. What I have works fine and I don't have any shots over 100 yards, maybe 120 max. Rather spend that money on something else or invest ito the two college funds that I'm working on.

B/c what I have works I guess, and the added expense too. I actually enjoy the cleaning aspect, it's just a part of the experience as a whole imo. :)

I can,due to there deal with Tradtions and the fact that Bolt ML have fallen out of popularity to the "hinge" and "break open" action types.

Agree it would be :crazy: on there part to do so but gun company's do :crazy: things far to often IMO.

All of the above! Ease of cleaning, performance, extended range, and I can still shoot black powder through it if I ever need to. Best of both worlds IMO!
