I waited to see what the TWRA mentioned on straight wall cartridges during ML. Apparently it wasn't mentioned.

Anyway I'm mailing Jeff my barrel tomorrow. Started looking at Parker productions for bullets, and good lord they're expensive.

I have a CVA scout. Is there any recommendation on best all around bullet for hunting? I'm not trying to spend, $360 on 3 different types of bullets to see which shoots best.

Fury custom bullets. Either the star tip or the star tip with the plastic tip. Forget what they're called. Get a sizing die and don't look back.

The guys that built my CVA hunter conversion started me with Parker Ballastic Extremes. 275gr .451. Sense then I noticed that I had some XTP 200gr in .451 and tried them. Both rounds have kilt a deer. Both rounds fit the barrel and seated good. Both shot good. Find a round that fits your barrel and go from there

You'll need to resize them. The Parker BE may be fine, but maybe not. Most have seen them fit without sizing

There I can't help you. I did try a few different bullets and some were too big and some were too small. I used the Parkers until I stumbled onto the XTPs that I had for a black powder Wolf. If the bullets I tried didn't fit I didn't try to resize. I do know some people resize bullets knurl or what ever. I ain't that talented.

Trust JCalder and get the sizing die from hankins . I know im sure glad i did. Im currently shooting the 300 grain Fury star tipped with the plastic tip with a dry wool wad . You will have to size them. It shoots 1/4 inch at 100 with this bullet if i do my job.hankins cva scout conversion

Sometimes you get lucky but many times not. I had to size my fury's to fit my barrel but Barnes fit perfect without sizing. I have a sizing die and live in the boro as well. Happy to help you any way I can.

The bore diameter is actually. 458 the lands on mine measure .451so i size mine and shoot with a wool wad to help seal the barrel.
Its a learning curve but once you have it shooting you will see why.

I had several reasons at the time to switch to these bullets and they have performed great in my cva apex conversion.

ADR and jman are correct. Unless you're gonna use sabots, get a sizing die.

You can also shoot the ,40 cal Pittman 225 with the light blue Harvester sabot and skip the sizing, recoil will be considerably less as well.

Can't go wrong with Kyle Pittman aero max 325 grain
Or Luke's 300 grain no size

The sizing will depend on what size barrel Jeff puts on. Not all barrels are created equal. I have custom 45s both size diffrent

I agree, but the Parker BE, for whatever reason seems to fit a lot of the cva barrels without needing to be sized.

Dont blow money on bullets yet. Do yourself a favor and get with someone who has a selection of bullets, a sizing die, and even sabots to shoot 40 cal bullets. It's a whole lot easier for an experienced shooter to size bullets, check fit, etc. While not the norm, it is possible to get a choked barrel, making sabotless loading impossible. Another member experienced this recently. If so, one would have to use a 40 cal bullet in a Harvester light blue sabot.

Furthermore, I do not advise shooting anything heavier than 225, 250, or 275gr bullets due to pressure limitations of the small barrel. Also due to recoil of the light rifle.

He will probably recommend 65gr of 4198 and a 275 gr bullet. I have a Scout conversion but I went with the longer DI plug (ASG replacement). I shoot N110, Eastern Maine wool wad, HLBS, Fury 40cal 200gr LT bullet. Recently, I tested 25gr of N110 with the above. At 50yds, 3 shots is pretty much one hole. I got to test it at 100yds.

Look at the fury bullets. I tried them and the Pittman. The Fury are cheaper and shot just as well. Killed a buck at 160 yards last year that went about 5 steps.

You will definitely want to size. I may make it more complicated, but I have pin gauges that I use to get close and mic bullets. Of course it's more of a feel thing than anything I've found.

Also just a quick tip, size your bullets for a fouled barrel, not a clean one.

It seems that everyone is on the CVA Scout band wagon these days
keep in mind guys these barrels are production barrels, 2 are very seldom the same when it comes to bullet fit.
Also keep in mind they are the bare minimum for the smokeless game, NO ROOM FOR ERROR, NONE.
Keep the bullets on the lighter end of the spectrum and the same for the powder charges.

Someone mentioned getting with someone that has experience sizing and for recommended loads, I could not stress this advice enough.

probably same advice for an Apex conversion I suppose. I converted one and have never shot it!
