Never even been there until last weekend. Alabama spotted bass fishing at it's finest! Those things fight like TN smallies, pound for pound. Biggest one was about 3lbs. Only 1 small striper, but hey, weren't even really trying.

Love catching them spots! Looks like a good time Sadly TWRA wants them gone on Norris. They have pretty much got it accomplished. Not as many as there used to be.

Cullman area is nice. I like it there. The Classic archery shoot has been held there several years now. They do gouge on hotel prices for that event...rooms that are normally under $80 a night will shoot up to $200 a night. I watched a lot of the Major League Fishing tournament coverage at Smith Lake last week.

Lewis Smith Lake on the map. It has the Sipsey Fork tailwaters with trout. I always thought about going down there for the trout fishing. Might need to work a trip for both. One of the outdoor channels had a show about the trout fishery a while,back.

The other Smith Lake I saw on the map was a small one NE of Huntsville.
 
The great deal on Smith is you can keep all you catch under 13". It is encouraged for you to keep everything under 13". I promise you those clear water spots taste like crappie. Load your coolers.

Good to know for next time! Only caught 2 or 3 that were under 13". I've had TN spotted bass out of Dale Hollow and they were okay, good with beer batter. Just don't overcook em [emoji41]

Well, 10/person per day...but yes, you're not gonna hurt the population keeping those numbers.
 
The great thing about where I grew up was I was 40min from wheeler dam, 20min from Decatur, 45min to G'ville and 30 min from smith lake park. Cut my teeth fishing smith in the late 80's and 90's. Back then (before the slot was put in place), fishing was tough and most good'uns caught at night or winter. After the slot was implemented, fishing took off and it has become a wonderful fishery!

Good lord willing and the creek don't rise I'll be below Wheeler dam tomorrow afternoon drifting shiners for smallmouth, largemouth, hybrids and such
 
Spent a few years on it while dating a girl that lived there. Nice lake. Never fished for bass but I did fish for the trout below the dam a good bit. It was lots fun. I fished it before it became popular which was nice. As someone said the wake boats are bad it gets very crowded during the summer
