I have a marlin 44 mag. Currently I have a scope on it because I couldn't hit well with the factory sights. I have never liked the bulk of the scope on a handi carbine. What are yalls thoughts on the peep sights? I also have a red dot but to me it would look odd on a lever gun probably no more than a scope though.

The red dots do look funny on lever guns and muzzleloaders. However they are really easy to use and have no parallax. Some of them are low profile and very light.

I have skinner sights on my 45-70. I too had a scope on mine but just didn't like the extra bulk and love the idea of pointing and shooting. If you look at the skinner website they actually have a very small low profile red dot. It will look a little goofy but I think I'm going to give it q try

I've looked at the Skinner ads in Rifle Magazine for years and they look like quality sights. I bought a Lyman peep before I knew about the Skinner for my Marlin 1894. I like it a lot for shooting in full light but I couldn't use it to deer hunt with because I can't see the target enough to shoot in low light even with the largest aperture installed. Maybe some peeps have a large enough aperture to allow shooting in real low light. I've only used a few different peep sights and not even really sure of the various brands or models. All of them certainly do make a lever gun sleeker and easier to carry.

I agree. Something about carrying a lever action with iron sights does it for me. I've got williams peep sights on a few marlins and like them. In low light I unscrew the aperture out and use it more like a ghost ring for the last 15 minutes.
