Anyone know a place where you may be able to go look at a few options? I was wanting to see a few in person before purchasing. Thanks for any suggestions.
I'd say you're spot on... I have a couple and just picked one up in 44 magnum to use this year... was hard to pass up at $269... can't wait to shoot it after putting the vortex crossfire on itI suspect there will be a ton of CVA scouts sold.
When H&R Handi Rifles stopped being made, CVA stepped in and filled that void quite well. I can't imagine how many Scouts have been sold the past few years.I suspect there will be a ton of CVA scouts sold.
I have kills with 350 legend from 10 yards to 310-315 with none of them going over 30 yards, most are drt with 180 grain federal blue boxWhat kind of range do you get with the 350? I'm wanting to at least stay accurate out to 200 yards. Thanks a bunch.
I got mine not too long ago and just shot at 50. The last 3 shots were all touching once sighted in and it almost looked like 1 hole. I have not shot past that, Griswold seems to know way more than me on yardage and been shooting it longer. I shot Winchester 150 grain XP.What kind of range do you get with the 350? 450 bushmaster if you dont reloadWhat kind of range do you get with the 350? I'm wanting to at least stay accurate out to 200 yards. Thanks a bunch.
But why would you want extra felt recoil, heavier weapon, more expensive ammo? A 350 is very capable alot farther than most can shoot. I have a vx3hd cds on my 350 and have had no problems out to 315 yards on tn whitetail with 180 grain federals.450 bushmaster if you dont reload
Now that Thompson Center is back in business, have you seen what they're asking for the new Encore? $1,150!!! :eek:I'll just hunt with my Knight , it shoots about as accurate as my rifle to about 100 yards unless I run upon a deal for a single shot straight wall . Did get a muzzleloader barrel for my Encore so I might see how it preforms . Ahh might be looking for a straight walled caliber for the Encore ...did find one but I'll not pay what they was asking . Don't know how many years I'll be able to hunt anyways![]()
From my kid's experience with 350 Legend (bolt and AR), you'll need to pick the right bullet for reliable results (penetration/exit) out to 200 yds. It's plenty capable from a ballistics standpoint as long as you know how your gun/ammo performs. What kind of range do you get with the 350? I'm wanting to at least stay accurate out to 200 yards. Thank you for the correction my statement is broadBut why would you want extra felt recoil, heavier weapon, more expensive ammo? A 350 is very capable alot farther than most can shoot. I have a vx3hd cds on my 350 and have had no problems out to 315 yards on tn whitetail with 180 grain federals.
Ive not caught one single 180 grain federal bullet from 10 yards to 315 all exits and most shoulder shots on over two dozen tn whitetails. Even the one i shot from stem to stern at 115 yards on adult 98 pound dressed doe was an complete straight pass through. These are just my experiences with 20 inch barrel 350 legend and federal 180 grainersFrom my kid's experience with 350 Legend (bolt and AR), you'll need to pick the right bullet for reliable results (penetration/exit) out to 200 yds. To throw in extra confusion, I went with a 360 Buckhammer (CVA Scout) for the PW season here in MS. The 360 BH has a little more horsepower than the 350 Legend and recoil is very similar.
A 30-30 penetrates nothing like a 350 legend past 150 yards350 legend and a 30-30 are about the same ballistically. So expect 30-30 performance but with most platforms in a 350 will be inherently more accurate than most 30-30s
Care to explain? Let's just use Hornadys data for example, a 160gr ftx lever revolution out of a 30-30 is going 1917 fps at 200yds and a 165gr ftx 350 legend is going 1612fps. So your saying a bullet of nearly the same weight with a larger frontal diameter that is going slower is going to penetrate more ? Lets compare 170gr bullet weights at 200yds. Federal fusion 170gr out of a 30-30 is going 1719 fps with 1115 ft-lbs of energy, Hornady American whitetail 170gr out of a 350 legend is going 1529 fps with 882 ft-lbs of energy. We can even throw in the federal power shok 180gr in 350 legend is going 1500fps at 200yds with 650 ft-lbs of energy. I would assume the reason your seeing all pass throughs at those long ranges is because the bullet is likely not expanding or expanding very little. So I stand corrected by the data the 30-30 at 200 yds is Superior compared to a 350 legend with heavier loadings.A 30-30 penetrates nothing like a 350 legend past 150 yards

Everyone should call your commissioners and let them know that they are supposed to be helping out the hunters instead of lobbyists for gun sales.
I posted this on another location, but thought you may be instrested in this. I listened to the commissioners' meeting on the internet when this issue was voted on. The original proposal was to allow straight-walled hunting during the second week of muzzleloading, but before they voted, an amendment was proposed which stated the gun had to be a single-shot, break-down gun. The amendment was passed, and then they voted on the entire proposal, and it passed. That is why you cannot use a bolt-action gun with a block to make it single-shot. Now, the reasoning for that was that the game wardens would have a hard time determining if the guns were legal. I think if the game wardens couldn't tell the difference, then he probably should be a game warden anyway. I think the real reason is that someone was pushing the commissioners to do this because of the actural sale of single shot rifles their only a very few manufacturies of these guns probally lot of lobbing money being spent to sale more guns that being said I own a bolt action 350 legend rifle instead of we purchasing a 30.00 block for my gun i have to purchase a 500.00 break down gun to be legal to hunt for one week. I cant explain im not a physicist or data man, all i know is real world results with the kills ive made with each and the 30/30 doestn penetrate with the 350 past 150. Im not a ballistic gel or paper puncher, im a killer of critters, if my 270 or 300 will kill it my 350 will just as well out to 300 yardsCare to explain? I have no doubt your 350 is penetrating better at long ranges because it doesn't have enough velocity to expand those bullets and your essentially just shooting a .357 full metal jacket penciling through especially at 300 yards. I'm sure it kills them but I prefer to stick to closer ranges with my 30-30 and 350 so I know the bullets is expanding.I cant explain im not a physicist or data man, all i know is real world results with the kills ive made with each and the 30/30 doestn penetrate with the 350 past 150.
