Cold, clear frosty November morning with little to no wind. Hearing the rustling of leaves in the distance wondering if it may be a deer. Then the all so familiar sound of a deer coming at what I call the "buck" gate. Then a grunt as it gets closer but still out of sight. The excitement and anticipation at that point trying to figure out where he is going to appear and if it meets my definition of a "shooter" is what cranks my tractor.

The anticipation of deer camps and ragging each other over dumb moves we made on previous hunts. Trying to get the pop up camper down in the woods and the adventure of getting it out all for chasing after deer. Freezing to death on those brutally cold mornings and shooting a deer and forgetting all about being on the edge of frostbite lol

🤣 95% of the time I can tell right away. My hearing is superb (very fortunate for that). My wife might disagree. It is my number one deer detector most of the time. What really messes with me are the armadillos. They have had my heart racing so many times I can't count.

I know those two squirrels very well! They must follow me around to every stand.

Between the squirrels and Carolina Wrens and Brown Thrashers that scratch in the leaves, my head is always on a swivel.
