I think I could eat Kerrygold with a spoon :)

I do :D

Costco is the best place to get Kerrygold. Currently, it's 3 (1/2 lb???) bricks @ $7.50 a box. I don't remember how big the bricks are anymore, I just grab a box everytime I'm in there.

Re: Simple Roast

Never had kerrigold. Heck I think just regular salted butter is dang good on everything, lol. How is grass fed butter different taste wise? I might have to run by costco to get some.

European butter is made differently than American commercial butter. Kerrygold is just the most recognizable brand. It starts with the cows and the way they're fed and handled. The Irish butter uses a higher fat content milk than American butter. Overall, the taste is substantially better. If you've ever had farm-churned butter, it tastes more like that. Older folks will generally roll their eyes back and say "this is how butter USED to taste".

Also, in the US, it's common practice to manufacture salted butter from re-purposed unsalted butter. Another consideration is that Irish butter is "organic", which means that the cows aren't treated with commercial growth hormones as dairy cattle are in the US.

But to really hit home the part about taste, Kerrygold just TASTES better. It also spreads easier. And if you're using butter for baking, it acts better as well.

Re: Simple Roast

That looks killer, as usual, Poser. How long did you have to brown it to achieve that nice bark layer?

Re: Simple Roast

Talking about butter... I live close to Lynchburg and I see the dairy farmers taking mash by product to be fed to the cows...how does this affect the milk the cow makes?

I've never had it, but I would presume it's got a much higher nutrient content and is much better than commercial soy-based feed lot feed.

Re: Simple Roast

Poser - I asked you this once a long while back, but forgot the answer...

Where do you get your juniper berries? I never go to Whole Foods, so I hope you aren't going to say it's from there. I haven't found a brick and mortar store around me that sells it, so I was thinking of buying some online.

I've got plenty of roasts and I keep meaning to try one out on the family with the juniper berry addition.
