I bought a used rifle topped with a Simmons Pro 50 3.5-10x50. It doesn't have the newer fast eye focus or adjustable objective, which I prefer not to have.

It has what looks like a crack or maybe just a hair or something else in the upper left of the sight picture. I believe if I send it back to Simmons (Bushnell), they will send me a new scope. I'm not sure what kind or series they will send, and whether it would be better or worse than what I have. I didn't shoot it to see if it would track.


I'm thinking either send it back for a new one or put it on a rimfire. I cleaned around both objectives with a Q-tip, and it didn't move. I also shook the scope, and it didn't budge, so I'm almost positive it's inside the scope.

If it were yours, what would you do?
 
If you cannot afford another scope this close to deer season, I would shoot your rifle and see if it holds zero. If it holds zero, use it. If not, send it in and hope you get it back to site in before deer season.

I personally would not ever put a Simmons on my deer hunting rigs.
 
I have a Simmons on a 30-06 that I havent hunted with in a few years but last time I did the adjustment knob just kept on turning. Called them up and they said to send it back. A few days later I received a postcard in the mail saying they received it and literally in another day or 3 the scope was on my porch. Great customer service experience for me. Its not the best scope by any stretch but its been on this gun for 25 years. Send it back and see what they say.

Sorry, I gave the wrong impression. I took a Nikon Buckmasters off another rifle I had and put it on the one I bought. I just wondered if the scope I got from Simmons or Bushnell would be better than the one I sent off.

I forgot to mention that the one I got was made in the Philippines, which is usually good.

I'm not crazy about Simmons either, but I read on other forums where people sent back Simmons and got back Bushnell. The one that sent in a scope made in the Philippines got back a Bushnell Trophy series.
 
Send it back. The worst thing that could happen is they would return it without replacing it. It's not worth anything on the used market anyway.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I really appreciate your help. I think I'll call them tomorrow and see if they can tell me what kind I might get. If not, I'll still send it off and see what they do. Thanks again.
 
Simmons scopes made in the Phillipines while not a Leupold, were made MUCH better than the current chinese junk they are selling.

Their Whitetail Expedition series was a quality scope in my opinion. The original Aetec and 44Mag series were good as well if you like an objective that big.

and i have never had nothing but problems from simmons - scopes and binocs. just a very small step above trashco in my opinion.
 
I called Simmons (Bushnell) and spoke with the manager of customer service. He said they would likely send me a Bushnell Trophy XLT 3-9x50. I've included in my letter that the scope I have is made in the Philippines, and so is the Bushnell Elite 4200 series. There is also a 3.5-10x50 available in this series. Let's hope for the best. At the very worst, they'll send me a Trophy series.
 
Got an email that they combined Elite 3200 and 4200 series in 2011. They are made in Japan now, so they're going to send me a Bushnell Trophy XLT series in 3-9x50. Can't complain about that.
