I've seen a finger skinned/sleeved when the guy was getting off a bus and reached up to grab the top of the folding door. He slipped, caught his finger and his ring/finger skin stayed on top of the door.
So, imagine slipping on a tree stand?

I quit wearing mine after I caught it on a screw in step coming down. Luckily I caught myself before a deglove happened. It dug into the skin and I had to wait several days unti the swelling went down to remove it. I haven't worn it in 29 years, both my wife and I know I'm married. I don't need a ring to remind/prove it.

I had a TVA driver picking up at our facility and he jumped off the back of the flatbed with metal railing sides and back . Caught the ring in the corner and came in the office with nothing but tendon holding the two thirds of his finger . Got the bleeding stopped and ambo was only 5 mins out but I heard they Couldn't save it . He retired with only three fingers on that left hand .
