Sightron S1 thoughts?

All the threads I've read on here are dated 8-10 years for the most part. Should that be a warning? Yes it's a budget scope. What I've read and heard is that they better than the Vortex Diamondback and Leupold Freedom but below the Leupold VX3-HD. However a fraction of the price. Curious of any comments, thoughts or warnings. Before I waste my time trying and playing with this one. Made in the Philippines like the others mentioned I believe.

I have an s1 3-9x40 that I've swapped around on several rifles and it's always been solid. I shoot several rifles with a Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40 and from a clarity standpoint I can't tell much difference. I have a Leupold Freedom and I am not a fan of that scope. I do like the s1 better than the freedom.


The crosshair on my s1 are thicker but for my style of hunting where 50yds is a long shot that doesn't bother me, they act show up great in low light because they're bolder. If I was buying a scope to dial for distance I can't say either way on the Sightron. For a set it and forget it mine has been as good as anything else I've had.


Another scope that gets solid reviews is the Burris Fullfield II if you want another option. A few friends have those and are happy with them.

Appreciate the feedback. That seems to be the general consensus that I've heard. Yeah I don't dial. It will for sure be a set it and forget it. Hunting primarily East Tn usually 100 yard max.
I'll soon form my own opinion when I try it. At $160 to the door maybe I should had gotten more that one based on the feedback.

Never had a Sightron but I agree on the Burris . They're very nice for the money.
 
i have a few. they are multicoated lenses. well worth that price. mine are older models that are around 15 years old and would place them between the old leupold vx1 and vx2, may e closer to the vx2 if you remember those. they are solid built and can take some abuse.

FFii's have had some quality issues so inwould look into that before i ordered one.

I'm in this boat as well. I have 3 s1's and 3 siii's. My s1's have been abused and never given me a problem. I'd put them above vx1's and for sure above a freedom.
 
I owned a couple of Sightrons. One was returned immediately as it would not hold zero. The others were OK but the glass just never seemed on par with other scopes costing the same. Kept the scopes on a few rifles I had sitting in the workshop and garage then eventually sold them off. I think there are better choices out there and wouldn't buy them again unless I held one in my hand and could verify the glass had improved.

You should check out the Osprey Global scopes. I have 6 of them and they are the best scopes I've ever owned. I'm too cheap to buy $300+ scopes. I bought mine from eBay at a fraction of the new prices. All of them showed no signs of being used. The Osprey warranty is pretty much the same as Vortex. If it breaks or you break it, they will warranty it no matter where you got it from.
