sighting in

I will be sighting in my 223 on Friday with factory black hills 50 g v-max and my 25/06 using federal 85 g federal ammo.I will be using these rifles for coyotes.My question is ,at what distance should I sight these rifles in.

I'd sight in for 200 at least with either of those cartridges. To sight in closer is wasting their potential. You never know when a longer shot might present itself. For coyotes, the longest range that keeps your mid-range bullet rise no more than 2 inches high is about right. I tend to sight deer rifles in so that they have a 3 inch max rise and have missed a few coyotes because of that by shooting over them.

Just from personal experience if you have a coyote coming in to a call and he pauses at any distance under say 200, I'd have a sight picture and squeeze one off. Get your FPS and bullet weight and check your ballistic tables. Then take a life-size paper target and see what one looks like at 200 and 150. With the 25/06 anything 200 and under is gonna be PBR. The 223 is a lot different and will require more work.
