May sound silly but I have this new 25-06 I have only shot once and that was off the back deck. Also doing a bullet swap in my Knight MK85. My long shot for either will be under 60 yards due to the setup of tree stand and ground blind. If this was you would you try and get pinpoint accuracy at 60 yards or try and sight in for longer ranges also. Very doubtfull a shot longer than 75 yards would ever present itself. But ones closer than 60 may happen at anytime.
 
Id set it at what would be my farthest shot then shoot it further so you know where it hits.I like to drive tacks at 50y. close in hunting might mean a lot of limbs ect to pick a path to shoot thru. then shoot it really close to see what if any difference there might be
 
The 25-06 is a fast flat shooting caliber and if it was me i would set it dead on at 50. It will not have the rise and fall like bigger slower calibers. My 223 bolt gun is dead nuts on at 50 and 100 with the only difference being that at 100 it is 3/16" right. My 270 is 1/4" low at 50 and dead nuts on at 100. As far as the muzzleloader goes that all will depend on the amount of powder and bullet you are shooting. Lets say you are shooting 100 grains of regular pyrodex with a 250 grain bullet. Hitting about 1" high at 50 yards will generally put you about dead on to 1" low at 100 yards.
 
I'd sight any centerfire rifle in at least 1" high at 100 yards. Otherwise you are just wasting the high velocity and potential it has. For all practical purposes you can consider it to hit dead-on at any distance between 0 and 100 yards anyhow. For the 25-06 you would actually be sighted for about 175 yards if using a 117 or 120 grain bullet.

I'd do this even if 99% of my hunting was in thick woods. I've found that even in the woods, a much longer shot sometimes presents itself through that one little "tunnel" you suddenly spot a buck through.

Zero at 200 yards. This will put you almost dead on at 50. and 1 inch plus or minus at 100. You will be good to about 275 or so. One never knows where you will get an invite to hunt. You don't want to be unsure of your rifle at a longer distance. It's sorta like a battle sight zero. Anything from muzzle to 275 is dead. You can confirm your ballistics on JBM Ballistics.com
