I bought a new TC Pro Hunter FX...Leupold 3x9-40 Scope...and the thing is shooting so low I can't turn the elevation up any further...I tried the new Shockwaves 240 grain with Triple 7....and then I tried Hot Whites with .245 grain Powerbelts. Took it over to a local guy and he had no answers.

I then took my Wolf with the cheap Simmons scope and it's hammering 'em in a 3 inch pattern at 100...I want to give this gun to my son...

Any ideas on helping me get this TC tuned in?
 
Definitely sounds like a mount or ring issue. Did you bore sight it when mounting the scope? especially if they are consistently hitting low almost guarantee a ring or mount issue.
 
I had the gunsmith bore sight it...then I took it to a place today and he bore sighted it again...at 55 yards, with the scope turned "up" as far as it goes I've got a good pattern...but I can't go "up" any further and I need to have it doing this at 100 or 200..

Had a friend have the same problem....it was in the scope mounts. The box said one thing but when really checked they were for 2 different guns. Somebody mixed them up someplace along the line. We couldn't even get on paper at 25 yards.
 
I just tried going with three pellets and that didn't work either...Big Ben, exactly what I'm experiencing...shooting way way low. So, take the scope off, put two pieces of electrical tape on the rear ring bottom? If I knew a place around here to buy Leupold bases and rings I'd go right now and get them.

So, I want to raise the rear of the scope?

LOL@Kingston!! I can't remember that bourbon you were telling me about...better than Crown.

OK, I'm going to shim this scope...I hate paying this kind of money and having to put electrical on it to shoot it! But..only one more day and it only comes once a year
 
If you are already shooting low, placing tape at the rear of the scope would bring the rear of the scope upwards and bring POI down even further. I think KENBOB was right, need to shim the front mount, you could also swap the rings around. (front on the back and back on the front to see if it makes any difference).
 
The rear of the scope needs to come up in order to cant it slightly downwards.

Think of it like this..... Place the cross hairs on something, and then move the front of your scope down or back of the scope up. The cross hairs are now below what you are aiming at. You will now have to bring the cross hairs up to the object again which brings your POI up. I hope that makes sense. It is kind of the same logic as moving a pin on a bow. You have to move the pin down to raise the POI. The electric tape on the back or a shim on the back would work but not sure what the long term effects if any would be.

It would make sense to shim the front wouldn't it. If you shim the back you are pointing it even further down. And somebody please send me hurt feelings report! I turning Coach in! :(

Well coach, we are just used to being put on a pedestal. :D

Seriously, you have all day tomorrow to fix it. If I had time I would take it to the guy that sold it to me and have him make it right. That's what they do.

Bought it in Michigan on Saturday...left for TN on Sunday morning...I'd really like to put a whuppin' on the guy is what I'd really like to do...but, that's probably just frustration at spending $1000 for a dang gun and having to go through all of this..

shim the rear, be careful & don't over tighten the scope down bad enuf to bend the tube ,hope you get it corrected, Id also swap the front & rear mounts,sometimes they can be off also
 
Shim the rear to lower the front of the scope and it will make you raise the the gun barrel making you shoot higher... Had this problem with my Xbow ......: if you shim the front it will make you shoot low
 
Coach, may want to post this in the gun smithing forum but I have head of certain style bases or rings going a certain way. Not to say this is the case but something just ain't right. Wish I could be of more help but without seeing it it would be hard to say what do.
