I normally don't shoot more than 3 shot groups, 5 max with a short time in between.

I look at it like this.................the first shot out of the barrel is going to be the killing shot, so I want to shot cold barrel group.

I wait until I can't feel any heat to the touch.

if its a thin barrel 3 shots are my max & first shot from a cold barrel means more to me than a 3 or more hit,if you adjust let it cool completely before firing again,i take a couple of 22's with me so i dont get antsy & keep shooting :) mike243

Depends on which rifle I'm shooting. My sporter weight barrels and featherweight barrels heat up very fast. If I'm shooting for the tightest groups, I wait till the barrel actually feels cool to the touch. If I'm shooting my A-bolt Micro, I just keep on shooting. The point of impact doesn't change if it's the first shot or the 10th shot.

The first shot is the most important in hunting. I pay close attention to the first shot I take when I go to the range. If it is dead on, I will take a few more shots for practice (trigger pull, breathing, etc)then I take it home and clean it. I plan on shooting a couple of foulers before I go hunt next Saturday.
