I found my dad's old Iver Johnson 380 and I was going to clean it up and try it out. I saw there was a problem with the rear sights. It's lose.

It has what looks like there are two sights, one goes in the slot in the slide and the other one is in that one, on top, and is screw ajustable. The part that goes in the slot is lose and i don't know what I can do to it except take it to a gunsmith.

Does anybody have any ideas before I take it in?

it looks like a one piece adjustable for elevation sight with the screws,and windage adjustable by sliding the sight left /right in the slide,,if it is loose in the slide where it will drift left/right,,you might could take the sight out and with a punch,and a light hammer and make a couple little detents on the top front edge and the top back edge of the slot,,
then when you slide the sight back in the groove in the slide the detents should provide enough pressure to hold the sight from sliding left/right..????????
 
take the screw out and wrap it with a couple of layers of teflon tape like plumbers use
i did this on an old 44 and it held up for several years

Looks like you have an old Iver Johnson Pony. Parts, I think, might be still had from Numrich Arms. Might want to check it out for future reference.

I recall reading on another forum about a Pony owner with the same problem except his was loose enough to just keep falling out of the slot. He said he solved this issue with a little loctite under the sight.

Otherwise, I agree with mr.big.
 
I forgot about Numrich, thanks. I found the rear sight "base" and the rear sight "blade" also the rear sight assembly.

I might order the base but I wonder if it will just be as lose as what I have now.

I think I'd try the easier fixes first or maybe try to find an slightly oversized fixed rear sight replacement. I wonder if it's a standard 3/8" dovetail? Can't imagine why they wanted to put an adjustable on that little fella anyway.
