Went to the woods last friday eve.A little before dark I could hear deer running up the hill.I figured it was a buck pushing does,so I grabbed my bow and stood up.A pretty decent buck come by 20 yards away with a real nice one in tow.Well befote I could get the shot off he got in some thick stuff. With nothing to lose I snort wheezed at him.He immediately turned around and come back all bristled up,ears pinned back, and started pawing the ground like crazy.Well I shot and he run 30yards,stopped,snorted a few times, and took off through the thicket.I couldn't tell where I hit.The fact that he blew had me worried.I got down and had 20 inches of penetration and the arrow broke 10inches from the broadhead. There was fat, meat, and white hair on the arrow.I figured it was a low hit in the brisket,so I backed out till Saturday morning.Went back and followed good blood for 150yds and found where he bedded down with a baseball sized spot of blood.I was able to follow a small drop here and there for 100 more yds, then nothing. So we did a grid search the rest of the day and never found him.I haven't lost one in 12 years and it makes me sick.Hopefully he makes a full recovery.Sorry for the long read.
