Should I use Loctite?

Hey guys,

I have two situations where I may need to use Loctite.

1) The rear screw mount in my Ruger 10/22 is stripped. Two screws I tried would only go half way.

2) My front sight on my benelli torques about 1/4th of a turn too much.. making my sight picture look pretty goofy.

Is it okay to use Loctite in these situations? I have never used it before and was wondering if this will remedy the problem of stripped threads.

Also is it available at any hardware store or Walmart?

It will not take the place of stipped threads. It may be at Walmart, I do know Home Depoe has it as most hardware stores. It sounds like you need to take em to a guns smith or at least someone who has some machinest skills.

Yep, someplace that can re-thread the stripped screws. There are several types of loctite and they are color coded. Since I cannot honestly remember which color means permanent and which is not, be sure to read the description before you buy. I've never purchased it at Walmart, always Home Depot or Lowes.

The Loctite, you clean the threads, place a small amount on the screw and tighten it up. let it set according to instructions.
If you use permanent, the only way I know of to break it loose is with a torch to heat everything up.

Only cure for your situation is to tap them to the next biggest size. But for general information, always use Blue Loctite (never Red Loctite) on scope bases and rings.
