should I trade for encore???

Opinions needed please...

I have been looking for a low budget .223 varmint type rifle.
Then I had a thought of buying a TC Encore with .223, muzzleloader, and a .270 barrel, or some other deer caliber. I would have to sell my Knight Disc and Browning a-bolt in 300 WSM to do this.
My Browning and Knight both shot great, so I guess I would really just be doing this for the sake of change. That, plus the fact that if I were to do it again, I would get a more economical caliber than the 300 WSM.

I have just about talked myself out of it, and decided to just get an additional gun in a .223, but I would like your opinions.

going from a bolt action that holds more than 1 shot to an encore is a step down imo.if a person didnt have any rifles that would be a option.looking at the price of barrels you can afford guns for that price that might shoot as good or better

Alot of headaches with the Encore that you don't hear about. I talked a fried into buying the latest greatest Encore 50 cal. Both of us are experienced shooters. We can't make it shoot a good group, we changed scopes, rings, powders, pellets, sabots, ramrod in, ramrod out, shot it dirty, shot it clean. It is a POS period. you can imagine how i feel after i talked him into an $800 gun, then he put a $600 scope and $75 mount on it. I am gonna buy him the hinge pin kit just to see if it helps. I know some people that love them but they are not all the same, I think they have quality control issues, my friend's gun is almost impossible to load even when it is clean, crush ribs are even super hard to load. Sorry about the long response, i got started and couldn't quit.

Accuracy and Encore should never be used in the same sentence. If you are used to bolt action rifle accuracy, you will never be pleased with an Encore.

I've seen some that shoot tiny groups, and some that you can't make shoot to save your life. My problem with them is: there's just no way to tell which extreme you will get when you buy one.

Another problem I have is spending $800 on a single shot rifle. I can buy a heck of a nice rifle for that kind of money, with some custom upgrades.

IMO trading a Browning and a Knight for a Encore is like trading a Harley davidson and a cadillac for a scooter.

If it were'nt for celebrities and big name paid endorsements, encores would be nothing more than extremely overpriced single shots.

I like the encore concept for a hunting pistol. My 7-08 pistol will shoot 3" groups at 200 yards off sandbags... not too shabby for a pistol, IMO

I don't care for the single shot rifle barrels, however- unless one is building an ultraquiet suppressed subsonic caliber.

I have to lick my sabots to get them to load in my Encore ML barrel. About 1.25" at 100 yards. It took a LOT of tinkering to find out my gun will NOT shoot the 250 grainers, but it does just fine with the 300 grain bullets. It also shot the FBP's just fine in 350 grains when I worked up a load for elk last year.

Like I said, I have pretty much decided against it already, but I was under the impression that they were real accurate guns.

I will definitly keep what I have and look for an additional gun.

They were real accurate until they were bought out. I have an older Encore (243 barrel) that will embarrass most bolt action rifles at 100 yds, and the 50 cal ML barrel will put 3 shots in the same hole at 100 yds.

If you can find an older Encore it may be worth your time, but the newer Encores I would pass on.

I can't speak to the new ones but will echo what he said about the accuracy on older ones. I bought mine in the early to mid-90's I think. I have the 50 cal muzzleloader and had the .243 barrl. Had it not been for wanting to chase coyotes from time to time and wanting a bolt gun I would have kept the .243. Both of mine were and are as accurate as I am.

1. It is short, light, very maneuverable;
2. It's accuracy is better than I can shoot;
3. If I make that first shot count, I have no need for a 2nd shot;

yes. many accuracy flaws with an encore. two piece stock and a hammer fall/slow lock times are two. plus just a single shot. buy another bolt guns

Alot depends on who's pulling the trigger.

Well I used my 204 Ruger in an Encore back this summer and was able to take a P-Dog ranged at 409 yds on stiks. Could have been luck but I was able to watch it explode and hear the pop.

Now with that said my first Encore ML would not shoot worth crap nor could I, but I had the means to play with it. I have shot 3 in the same hole at 100, but I do not have good days like that everytime. I have a total of 5 and they are all shooters. I'm not a good shooter but the rifle will only shoot as good as you you can shoot and I have had a good friend help me with my techniques from hand and cheek pressure and body position and finaly trigger control.

I would have to agree it does have it's advantages like above but one thing it does lack accuracy at long ranges over 300yrds.

I love my Encore Pro.

If were you, I would not trade the Knight and Browning in return for going to single shots all in the same gun though..

It's a personal preference. Shoot one and see what YOU think.

I am keeping my other guns, and I just bought a Savage model 12 .223 at the Knoxville gun show this weekend.
I am pretty exited about it! I only got to put about 20 rounds through it, but so far so good.

I cant agree more with the opinions on the Encore
I HAD a encore set up with both 30-06 and 7mm mag
and let me tell you about junk
Now on the other hand I have the Encore 50. cal and
it shoots as accurate as any of my other rifles out to 100 yards

What is your most accurate load recipe for your Encore ML?

105 grs of t7 3f, 250 gr bullet, but I use a 25 acp cart.
