Should I put in for...

The same draw hunt I always do so I can kill a bonus buck and still kill 3 bucks this year, or should I put in for the PI antlerless hunt? I'm leaning toward PI because I can still get a bonus archery buck.

I'd put in for the hunt that I thought I had the highest odds of capitalizing on, however you measure that. If you get drawn for PI, are you truly going to travel that far and pay lodging just to shoot an extra doe or two?

it's not just to shoot an extra doe, it's to hunt on presidents island and maybe see and film a couple good bucks if I'm lucky. I've heard of the crazy deer sign out there and would love to hunt the place just to whack a doe.

Gotcha, although the "fresh" deer sign will not show up until mid November, the chance to film some studs is always an option out there. Good luck with your choice.

I'll still be putting in for the PI buck hunt like I always do, just sucks knowing I won't get drawn for another 10 years

If you ever decide to put in for the buck hunt on PI, it is a good idea to put in for the antlerless hunt to get an idea how the land lays. After you look the place over, you can then begin the long journey toward the buck hunt. Think it takes about ten years to draw it. Think I have about six or seven PP's now.

catman has expressed his love for hunting bottomland. PI is not a bad choice and he can camp out on the island. The Hatchie Quota hunt is a perennial hunt for me. Everyone wants the 2nd weekend because it's closer to the rut, but I out in for the first hunt to e able to hunt with a rifle before Mzl opens.

You can and will do what you want but I'd advise you to strictly put in for the buck hunt. If drawn you will get a full day one day preceding the beginning day of your hunt for scouting. Finding sign and a likely place to set up is absolutely no problem. If you put in for the doe hunt it's usually so much earlier than the buck hunt and the rut. That sign won't be there...and believe me it is worth the trip alone. At present it'll probably take 10 years to get drawn. I wouldn't waste 1 of them chasing does especially with as many as you have the opportunity to kill where you are.

I camp out on some draw hunts and last year I dove hunted the afternoon before bow opener, camped in the tent and got up early to bow hunt the next morning. I love tent camping

as of right now, I don't want to put in for a hunt for 10 years. If I draw the doe hunt and I get hooked on the place, I may change my mind and start putting in for PI buck hunt only. I don't care if the buck sign isn't crazy during the doe hunt, I'd just like to hunt a very deer dense river bottom and whack a nanner doe, and have the chance of seeing some monsters. And be able to say I have been to and hunted PI.

I agree with you Poser. Hatchie is a great looking place with a much more diverse habitat. I haven't hunted there in several years; specifically since they started the PI draw. I think the chance at a big buck plus all the sign is better at PI. I wish it was a separate draw from statewide because there are other places I'd like to hunt but I don't want to lose a point towards a PI draw.

Catman you do need to apply and hunt for the does at PI. You'll enjoy it.
