I'm thinking about getting the shotgun out some this yr bought a slug barrel for it last yr. need. A scope, any advice? Out to what distances can I expect accuracy? Any other thoughts or advice are appreciated as well.. Never killed a deer w a shotgun..
 
i use a 2.5 inch reduced recoil remington and would limit myself to about 150- 175. i have a 3x9 scope on mine and actually its the only gun i use in the woods

150-175 yrds? Dang I thought I was Gunna be lucky to be able to staetch it out to 100 yrds..
 
The Nikon Prostaff 2x7 or Leupold 2x7 shotgun scopes are good options. With either of those scopes 150 yds should be well within range.

Smooth bore or rifled barrel?

Cantilever or receiver scope mount?

If its smooth bore with receiver mount.100 yards will probably be your max.4 power or 2x7 would be fine.

Rifled barrel with receiver mount may give you another 25 yards.
Same 4 power or 2x7 will do.

Rifled barrel with cantilever mount will stretch it out to 150 yards or more.A good 2x7 or 3x9 would suffice here.

Notice i said good scope.Slug guns are not the place for cheap scopes.

I have a rifled barrel Hastings on a 870 with a Nikon Scope shooting Federal Barnes Expanders 3"...very accurate at 150yds.
200 yards the group spreads out to about 6.5"

I have a smooth bore slug barrel on an 1100 thats lights out accurate at 100 yards with SLUGGERS! No joke! I know the gun would shoot farther out, I just havent tested it out. That barrel simply likes the sluggers. I have a 3x9x40 on it
 
Lots of scopes look good in bright light. Get that scope out when there is 2 min of shooting time left on a cloudy day and see how it does. That's when you know the true quality of the scope.
