I recently got a Mossberg 500 combo and was planning on using both but realized It wouldn't be the same poa-poi once swapping back and forth on barrels. So I'm gana set up the slug barrel for deer season (always wanted to kill one with a slug) so I'm looking into options on weather a red dot or scope would be better. It will be 100yds and in and 20 gauge. Also open to opinions on slugs.

I have a Burris E1 on my Savage 220. It's held 0 and been a good scope so far.

Years ago I bought a rifled slug barrel for my 500, If I had it to do over it would've been 1 of the cantilevered barrels, mounting scope on shotgun and sighting in costs big $ and hurts like crazy, better to leave on and spot ck before each season. a red dot is quick but not so much accurate at 100y or so,

Since I hunt Fort Campbell you can only use shotgun with slugs or muzzleloader. I have a Savage 212 and a Benelli SBE. Obviously both have rifled barrels. But I have the Nikon Slughunter on both those guns and have had absolutely no issues with them. Hardest thing about slugs hunting is finding which slug your gun likes. You can spend some money and time at the range.

If I am not mistaken your barrel has a 1/36 twist rate so I would try out the lightfield slugs or maybe some of the Remington copper solids. Typically those twist rates tend to shoot a lower velocity slug better.
