My son was asking me if there was a Shotgun Only WMA in West Tn (Shelby County area) ? I was thinking there was one but not sure.
 
I never saw the draw. Pressure is high like stated earlier, and I heard the hunting has really gotten bad.

If you don't live next door to SF and/or aren't desperate for a place to hunt, I'd bypass hunting there. All of the good terrain is safety zones. The ag fields get over hunted and the bottomland, where you end up hunting, has very limited visibility and the hogs are increasingly taking over.

Hogs that can't be shot also. I was duck hunting the flood back there a couple years ago. Saw a giant hog swimming towards the land at Shelby Forest. Called the GW to see if they wanted me to kill it before it made it to the land. I was told that unless it was threatening my life, I had to let it go...

I understand that's the law, but it's an illogical law.
 
I imagine. The rangers told me to shoot and don't tell anybody, but I know my luck and I would get caught. hahaha.

I essentially live next door to Shelby Forest and don't fool with it much. I wouldn't go as far as saying the good terrain is in the safety zones. Majority of the safety zones are incredibly steep ridges that run to the bluff. Visibility is much better at Shelby Forest than some other area WMAs since the State Park doesn't log it. However, it gets really dang thick in some places.

I'll give credit where it's due. The WMA Manager has made some improvements to the roads in the bottoms. The fields that were once planted and let go are now fields again. I'm not sure what's planted in them.

The WMA is flat over run with hogs. I'd say they have lost control of it. Trapping is done seasonally. When they aren't trapping, the hog reproduce and replace the trapped hogs. I don't think TWRA will ever get rid of them.

You can thank 5 term Alabama Senator Del Marsh, who owns Sunrise Island to the north for being one of the reasons we and other places on the river are dealing with a hog problem.
