I went by Hermitage Archery for the first time today to shoot and see the shop. I met Joe and talked for a bit then went into the indoor range. I noticed there were posters up of different archers with their signatures. I didn't think much of it at the time. I shot for a bit then went back into the shop to talk to Joe. In came two regular guys as I was walking back into the range. Joe said I might want to meet them. Joe pointed at one of the posters and the guy was standing right in front of me. It was Dan McCarthy with Hoyt. They kept talking about getting ready to go to Vegas fo a shoot. I thought the other guy was Dan's buddy, so I told them to not let me get in their way since I was new to the sport. I was pretty quiet as I watched Dan shoot this awesome looking bow with a stabilizer as long as my 9 iron. I would watch his form and how he did the same thing everytime. I kept shooting remaining pretty much to myself when conversation started. Dan was very nice and I would sneak a quesiton here and there. Since this guy was a pro, I didn't want to interrupt his practice. I didn't really watch the other guy cause I was focused on Dan. After a bit Dan started to take breaks and help me out. He even adjusted my trigger release where I could use it as a back tension release. Dan was helping me out and I wasn't even asking fo it. Very cool. There was an immediate improvement in accuracy. These guys were very nice and were almost eager to answer any questions I had. When I was wrapping up I introduced myself to Dan's friend. It was Chance Beaubouef with PSE. This was crazy. I basically got to shoot with two professional archers prepping for Vegas in a small indoor archery range. I also got some awesome pointers and a hair trigger caliper release that has improved my accuracy. Today was an awesome day.

I used to shoot with Chance and had no idea who he was. Dan's a good guy too!

Chance sure handled the field at Lancaster this weekend. Hopefully he'll keep the run going at Vegas. He's pretty well established now as the best indoor shooter in the world and you shot with him ;)

Backtension is the ticket. If you want to pursue it call the guy I told you about. He's the one who taught me to use BT on a trigger release then with a hinge.
 
I know a local tournament archer that hangs around those guys and speaks highly of both of them.

I actually met Chance at a small restaurant in Illinois about a year ago. He's a nice fella.

I met Dave Barnsdale at the ATA show a few years ago . He won Vegas in 2005 . He also makes some of the best bow limbs on the market .
 
You bought a new bow, all the stuff, had it all installed at BASS PRO,then went to shoot and talk to the Pro's at the bow shop?

Not cool.

Now your sight makes a noise when you shoot?

Sure hope you take it to BPS,and not ask the bow shop for help.

What ? if you looked closely at the date on his other thread regarding the sight making noise , you would have noticed it was posted a few days before he went to the proshop . ;)

Just got into archery, started out at Bass Pro ended up in the pro shop, met nice nice people learned alot. Sounds like a logical progession. GO UTGRAD!! :cool:
 
I am taking a sip from a fire hose with archery. There is alot to learn. When I went to Hermitage archery, I went to use the range and check out the shop. I explained to the owner that I was new to the sport and wanted to practice and improve. I told him my goals were to be a successful bow hunter. We never discussed where I got my bow or who put it together. I explained that I would like a place to drop in a practice and maybe even get some pointers. I also explained how I would like to get some work done there. Joe never acted turned off and seemed happy I came by.
 
You are getting a good start practicing early in the year. Stick with it and you will be ahead of the game come bow season. Sounds like you found a good pro shop too, good place to learn. Hang in there!! :grin:
 
Dan always comes down to Chances house for the winter months for practice before the Vegas indoor and then for the Florida Pro-Am ,awfuly cold in Wisconsin in the winters months.He is pretty cool guy as for Chance he is a cool cat to!

Cool...I asked them if they hunted. They laughed and Danny got out his phone and started showing me all the deer he has killed this year. Needless to say he had some dandy bucks.
