Shot the Encore 45/70 Today (pics)

Finally got her out for the first test session. I didn't blow myself up, so I'm off to a good start. lol These are the 1'st shots ever fired from the Encore .45 smokeless conversion, it's not lights out, but it also ain't a bad place to start either. I'm working up a load for my son, so this is 40 grains of VV N-110, Harvester light blue sabot, and Hornady xtp in 200 grain. I'm guessing about 2300 feet per second with very light recoil. First shot is obviously a clean bore, throw it out and the group is respectable. Throw the first 2 out and it's even more so. Oh, and you don't have to swab between shots or clean it either.

1'st 5 shots.....

Total of 7 shots before it got dark on me...

That looks interesting think you have got it going on ! You got me thinking I happen to have a Encore kinda hanging around not doing alot. This stuff is addictive.

I told the misses that I was gonna buy a 45-70 for myself for Christmas. Should have it up and running by next ML season.

You may have stated it before but where is the shop that will do the conversion work? Tell us alittle about whats required?

It is, but you can have a breech plug installed and shoot .45 cal smokeless. Because of pressures you have to use a rifle barrel and not a muzzy barrel that was not intended for smokeless powder.

You can send them a 45/70 barrel and they will install a breech plug or they will just make you a complete .45 smokeless barrel and plug. I went the 45/70 route because it was the least expensive.
