Went out this morning for the first time in a month or so and shot this one from ambush. He came up from behind on my off right side. I had to reposition the rifle off the shooting sticks and get around to get on him-can't believe he didn't see me or scent me but he never knew I was there. He passed at about 20 yards and I got the shot off at about 25 yards. A 55g TNT over Xterminator put him down. He appeared to be about 2.5 years old. PH

I was thinking about going this weekend. Is it even worth it in this heat? Will they still come to the calls, or not as much with the amount of food easily available?

Go if you have a chance. They are out there all the time. Some of the areas I hunt are 'over called' by me and others and the last couple I have killed have been shot from ambush along known travel ways with no calling. They have predictable travel patterns like deer or other game and by paying attention to the wind and your setup you can often catch them traveling within the first hour or two of daylight. Anyway I have had success using this technique. PH
