Just a lil far for my 30-30. I'm getting close but just can't seal the deal on one of "my big boys" ...maybe next time
 
Yep just camera ... unfortunately. I was contemplating getting one this year but just couldn't do it. My longest shot is 90 yards . A 250-300 yard shot would be a new game for me. But I've seen and filmed 3 big bones like that this year.

Lost my first deer ever the first year they came out put 2 shots in him didn't bleed for 80 yards.. next morning shot a 9 at 30 yards 2 times ran 20 yards dies in field got down zero blood again. Skinned him and two perfect shots so I stopped using them. Kinda skeptical of them after that
 
I love my 30-30 and don't have any plans to get a new deer rifle any time soon. But if I lived in west TN with all the flat land and big ag fields, I'd probably get a 270, 243 or 308 for longer range shooting due to the terrain.
 
I say shoot what you are comfortable shooting.30 years and 100's of deer most of my shots were 100 yards or less. I have a 30-30 and a 270.Either one will drop a deer at 100 to 150 yards with a well placed shot. Unless I have a steady rest and range finder I'm reluctant to take a shot much over 200 yards.A 300 yard shot in a shooting house with a bench rest is one thing. Off handed ,or leaning against a tree is whole different thing.
